That's right, I'm not even an Excelsior student yet... All this talk/scare about the CPNE exam makes me think twice, 3x ect about doing excelsior. I get REALLY nervous before tests and don't know if I can handle all that pressure for 2 days and that much $$! I know there are ways to prepare but I only have 6 months of nursing experience and feel like a fool who knows nothing :uhoh21:
I work in LTC (most hospitals near me do NOT hire LPNs) and my experience is made up of passing meds, paperwork and assessing someone of they fall or feel sick. Anyone else feel this way? I'm just not confident about the cpne but I know I would do fine on NC1-8 (or whatever that new schedule is)

I'm with you. I just graduated a PN program and will be taking my NCLEX this month. I've been researching LPN-RN Excelsior, and I know I won't have any trouble with the exam content. All of my pre-reqs. are out of the way, and I feel comfortable with the material. But the CPNE really worries me. Like you, I will be working in LTC because it's hard to get hired on as an LPN in Atlanta at a hospital. I won't have any acute care experience before setting foot into the dreaded CPNE.
I'm 99% sure I'll go the Excelsior route, but I plan to invest in the CPNE preparation videos/books/course. I will take every bit of help I can get with the CPNE! The CPNE conferences are a bit expensive, but I'm sure it's worth every penny for the extra practice and peace of mind. As far as I'm concerned, it's all an investment in my career which will more than double my LPN salary, so I'll take out loans and do whatever I have to do in order to make it happen!
Feel free to PM me! If you decide to do Excelsior, maybe we can help eachother along the way~! :)

Don't let fear hold you back. You will have plenty of time to practice for the cpne. you can buy a skills bag it has iv supplies, dsg supplies etc. the video will show you what to expect. You have been in a hosp. setting for your LPN that will help a lot. I have been out of school for 21 yrs. I'am scared to but I will keep going till I finish. Leo2

You'll be able to prepare for the CPNE ... you're not going to have to go in with just your current experience. There are a lot of aids to get you ready -- workshops, videos, workbooks, etc.
I know the CPNE is going to be scary ... but I've decided that I really CAN do this. There is much to be said for the mental preparation in practical testing. :)

Me too!!!! Maybe we should start our own "scared of CPNE" online support group when we get the courage up to take the plunge!

I could use a support group to butter me up often :chuckle:
I guess I'll have to deal with it when the time comes. For now, I'm putting off school until January since I know I'll be too busy during the holidays to work on anything. I keep finding excuses to delay things- argh!
