Hey friends! I am just looking for a little direction/ opinions on if you think I have grounds to appeal my grade. I am in an accelerated nursing program and have been doing very well until I got covid (from a simulation lab 4 of us went down). I was doing well enough in my classes that after I was out of quarantine I was able to take my finals and complete 4 12 hour clinical shifts over our one week break. But, after that I started my last two classes. One I ended up with an A, but it was a basically a review for me because I have a masters in that topic and the other was my nursing IV class. There were three exams and I received a 62% in my first. Before this, I hadn’t scored below an 82% on ANY nursing exam and usually there were 4 per class. I literally felt like my brain was fuzzy all of the time. Nothing would stick, and my recall was vertically absent. Embarrassed, I slowly started talking about my new found deficit with some of the nurses at my clinical site. They introduced me to the manifestation of “covid fog”. I started doing some research and identified with the stories soooooo much! After conceding to this deficit I began reaching out to services offered by my school. I was able to obtain a 76% on my next exam and a 90% on the accumulative final. However, this was shy of the needed 78% average. things that made this class different from other classes prior
-this class was totally online which had never happened prior
- the class was solely based on exams. Before the class offered in class quizzes to evaluate how well students were/weren’t understanding the material
things that separated me personally from other students
-I was under distress from lingering effects of covid I didn’t know existed
-I was not given the same Summer break of 10 days like my peers who used that time to refresh themselves. Instead, I was in clinic and taking several finals.
-prior to this class I had never received a test grade below an 82% and have a GPA of 3.74
I’ve found a few articles to support covid fog and the detriment it can have on a persons cognitive ability. I fear there is not enough research surrounding this topic at this time, however I don’t feel that’s a fair reason to discount the realities of the detriment it can cause on a students ability to perform.

Ugh, I am so sorry this happened to you. Does this mean you failed your Nursing IV class? I doubt you will be able to appeal the grade you already received, but perhaps you could appeal to be able to re-take one or more of the exams?
