I am graduating in May and starting to apply to jobs. I have a cover letter but I am unsure if it strong enough. I guess I am just wondering what kinds of things should be included. I don't have a lot of experience so I don't have a lot to talk about. I am nervous because I know the cover letter is important. Any help would be great.
Hello All,
I have decided to go ahead and post the sample Cover Letter here for everyone to read. I hope there are no rules against this! This sample is one i used to apply for an Externship position, so obviously it would need to be tweaked to your individual needs. With as tough as the job market is today, we need all the help we can get! I hope this helps and good luck job hunting everyone!

I am writing in response to the announcement recently about the ******* Hospital Externship opportunity for nursing students. As you can see from my resume, I will graduate in May of 2011 from ********* Community College Nursing Program.
Through my clinical rotations, I have had the opportunity to work in several settings including med/surg, psychiatric, medical detox, and long term care. My experiences enabled me to develop strong skills that prepare me for the challenges of nursing. I plan to complete my med/surg-oncology rotation this spring and am confident that I will continue to develop as a nursing student, particularly as I provide care to a diverse patient population.
I believe the experience I could gain by being employed as a Nurse Extern at ******* Hospital would increase my nursing skills and provide me with a broader base of clinical knowledge. Through this experience I will be able to see firsthand the quality of patient care and the progressive techniques that are trademarks of the ******* Hospital System.
In addition to my nursing skills, I will bring strong leadership and organizational skills from my professional and extra-curricular involvement. Balancing work, full-time school and raising two children as a single parent has required commitment, time management, and often, a well regarded sense of humor. Preceptors, advisors, and supervisors have commented on my ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a level of enthusiasm for the project at hand.
I would be delighted to begin my career with ******** Hospital. I appreciate the opportunity to be considered for this Externship. If you would like to contact me, my cell phone number is ***-***-**** and my e-mail address is ******@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
(Your name)

NurseReeves,
I was the one that everyone was getting the sample from, and I posted it here so everyone had access to it. Enjoy!

Oh my gosh, you wouldn't want my cover letter, it's so general that it's a joke! That's not annoying at all by the way! :) I cringe at the thought that I actually sent it with my applications! But if you would still like to see it, I'll certainly send it along.
