Since this is my first post, I hope I don't make everybody groan with my newbie junk, but I am slowly trying to read up this site and get some good info. Being a sophmore in a BSN nursing program in the DFW area, I have been as of late considering joining the army or AF after my education and do nursing.
While there is so much info on this board, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction regarding general information for folks wishing to explore the military, requirements, restrictions, etc that nursing folks can look forward to if they plan on joining up. I have read of an Army Nurse Candidate School, but can't seem to find any substantive info on this.
Thanks for any help!!

Hi. Welcome to Allnurses.
I suggest that you call the local Army recruiting office or the Army's 800 number. They will be able to give you the exact info that you need. They have an information packet.
Good Luck to you.

Talking the the army recruiter is a good suggestion, but make sure to double check everything they say via online searches or other means. I have talked to 3 different recruiters about the nursing corps and have gotten different information from all of them. ON the basic points they were "intune", however in answering many of my more specific questions they would give different answers. I think I got the most valuble and reliable information from my first recruiter to whom I talked to while I was still in school getting my BSN. She had been an LPN in the military and had first hand knowledge, however my other two recruiters had no medical experience whatsoever and I got 'iffy" info. from them. You can PM me with any questions and I may be able to answer since I have done much research into the subject.

Also, make sure you speak with a "health professions" recruiter. There is a difference! They are focused on recruitment of nurses, physicians, etc and know the unique ins and outs of medical officer recruitment. I've been an Army Nurse Corps officer for 10 years and I'd be happy to speak with you offline if you wish - PM me with your e-mail address.

I am an Army Recruiter and Nurse. and I belong to the battilion that services your area. If you would like the number of the Nurse Recruiter that is responsible for your area give me a call. My number is 877-573-9205. I will give you CPT Dowless number. She is a nurse and a recruiter. As stated below makes a world of difference.
You won't qualify for ANCP until the Summer of 06 but you can start your packet a couple of months early so you can get the check by July 06.
