Could this be a sneaky way of discrimination on job application?

Published

Being out of work, have filled out a lot of hospital applications. Some of them having an "authorization for investigative consumer report" paper to fill out. Usually you just sign the paper giving them permission to conduct this info if they so chose.

Anyway, filled out application yesterday, and had one of these papers with the app. Only on this paper, it just wasn't your signature they wanted. They also asked for: name, address, SS# Driver's license number and Date of birth! (which they could have found out anyway with the driver license number)

Anyway, next the "Date of birth", it claims to be for "identification purposes only". How lame is that? Fast way to tell how old the person applying is...and you know the rest!

Of course, when your application gets tossed in the can, how would you know or prove that it was because of your age? After all, their little added wording (for identification purposes only) sorta gives them protection, do ya think?

Just irritated and venting...but welcome others opinions!

A CREDIT CHECK??!! they can do that? For a job app? I haven't ever heard of that before. Maybe it's been done and I didn't know it. Why would they need to know my credit score? And not being 25... My resume gives that away fast! I would hope that a solid resume would help you get a job, not exclude you. :o Maybe I'm too naive.

I wouldn't worry about a credit check. A lot of employers have you sign an authorization for a credit check but never actually run it. I've been on enough job search boards where HR reps actually admit they rarely do credit checks unless you are working in finance.

that does sound fishy. i've never seen anything like that before....hmmm.. makes me wonder with you... has anyone ever signed anything like that before?

They are not allowed to ask you how old you are but I can tell you that the information they requested is required for the background check they do on all applicants.

I noticed a long time ago that applications stopped asking for the high school graduation date and read that one shouldn't provide it because of this reason. I have encountered age discrimination in job hunting so I would not be surprised if prospective employers would use surreptitious means to find out this info and use it against an applicant. How convenient to have the info made available and to not get caught using the info for whatever purpose imaginable. Valuable human resource tool.

I have apllied for a RN opening positions at a hospital in Orange County, CA. At the end of the process, there is an "authorization for investigative consumer repor" form asks for my birthday, driver license, and other names that I have used. My applications have been rejected before, so I assume the last two applications that I just filled out last night will be as well. I don't know the reasons of rejection though......:)
