Just found out that I will be going to the March 09 COT! I will be going to Travis for NTP then stationed at Nellis! My husband and I are both very excited!
Is one else going to COT in March?
Guess what?! Someone on the board has actually looked at my packet. Finally. I know this, because they asked for more paperwork!!! lol. They want my release from inactive reserves, not just my DD214. And I don't have that letter. My recruiter said he already sent for it and it should be there tomorrow. How many trees can we kill!? I'm actually really excited that my papers are in someone's hands. :)
midinphx - woooowhooooo!!!!! yeah!!!!! :yeah:keep us posted!!!
i just found out that i'll be in march cot instead of may! so i've just requested to join the facebook page and get in the loop! now that it's so close these are the questions i'm wondering about- does anyone have the answers:
1- is there anything we're NOT allowed to bring? like an extra pillow or other comfort measures, maybe a book? or should we just stick to the packing list and call it a day?
2- can we have snacks in our room?
3- are there bathrooms in the dorm rooms or are they community bathrooms in the building?
4- if we show up with all the uniform things on the packing list are we supposed to know how to wear it all before we get there or just have it and they teach us?
i know i have more but that's all i can think of off the top of my head. kind of ridiculous i know, but just wondering.
oh, and i think i read this somewhere but is there a weight limit for moving? and how do i know if i'm close to it? i don't have that much stuff but a couch, dresser, bed, etc starts to add up. and how much of a pain is it to set up moving for dates you need? i'll have to have my mother be in charge of it since i'll be moving while at cot, i guess, but she works too so it'd have to be around her schedule...
like everything else does this all seem to work itself out? i guess i should have learned by now that it does but it's stressful and anxiety inducing!
Congrats and welcome... Where are you going? I am going to Travis.
You can have snacks in your room, but they must fit in the plastic container (we buy when we get there) that is on the list. You are already supposed to know how to wear the uniform and they should be ready BEFORE you get there. 2 rooms share a bathroom and each room contains 2 people if I am correct. So 4 people share a bathroom. I am sure you can bring a book if you want, but you will be too busy to read probably.

you can bring a pillow, i don't know about extra pillows, though. your rack should still be able to look military when made up. i'm sure you can bring a book...you'll have plenty to read and study, though.
2- can we have snacks in our room?
yes, as mentioned they must fit in the rubbermaid box that you get down there. they also must be sealed (i.e. granola bars, power bars, nabs, etc. no loose cereal, granola, m&m's etc.
3- are there bathrooms in the dorm rooms or are they community bathrooms in the building?
answered above. depends on number of people. i heard they have put 3 in a room in the past, or 1 in a room if an odd number of trainees.
4- if we show up with all the uniform things on the packing list are we supposed to know how to wear it all before we get there or just have it and they teach us?
you should know how to wear them anyway, you will have to buy all of the uniforms there if you don't buy them ahead of time. there are plenty of folks here and there that will help you learn the right way to wear your uniform. we're a team, we want everyone to be successful.

congrats! look forward to meeting you in a month! the tmo folks can let you know what your weight limit is for moving and how to make an appointment. if you have someone you trust, you can give them a limited power of attoney and let them meet the movers if you have to. it's an option, anyway.

There are no room inspections in COT, no one talks about "racks" (I haven't heard that term since I was an Air Force cop and we were out doing field exercises) and the beds are, for the most part, real beds. Plenty of people brought an extra pillow (and I very nearly bought one while I was there, but by the time we got base privileges it was pointless). I took civilian clothes, a couple of books (sometimes you NEED to get your head out of the military books for even half an hour), had my iPhone (I CANNOT be without music) and a personal laptop. It's COT, not boot camp (which I've also been to). Also, I've never heard of three people in a room and I don't know where'd they'd put you - there's room in each room for two beds, two desks, and two chests of drawers, and there are two sinks and two walk-in closets. Keep in mind you have maid service who change your sheets, make your beds, and keep your rooms clean. Each room has a shower and a toilet in it.
You will be taught how to wear the uniform and there will be plenty of prior military folks there to help you.
You can have snacks in your room as long as they fit in the container you have to buy when you get there, and believe me, it's huge.
