Corporations offering discounts for nurses

Published

I checked my mail after class today, and got an offer for a credit card that was "specially for LPNs." The pitch was that since I am an "unsung hero" I can take advantage of a special interest rate. haha. it sparked a thought, though. I wondered if there were any legitimate offers or benefits out there for nurses. Anyone?

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

I get discount on my car insurance beause I am a nurse. I believe anyone who the insurance considers to be part of the 911 group, just has to prove it and gets $25

Huyndai cars used to give RNs a discout on their cars. I think it was 2K or something. I don't know if they still do.

Once a year, Borders gives 20% off all books bought by nurses. Just show your badge.

Wow. I used to want to be an RN so that I could have a rewarding career with flexibility. Now it's all about the discount hyundai! yeah baby!

Think you may have missed the point of the thread:uhoh3:

Specializes in OB.

One legitimate offer I know of - the state of New Mexico has a mortgage assistance plan specially for health care workers - I believe it involves no down payment mortgages. Friends of mine are taking advantage of this plan now.

Specializes in mostly in the basement.

Actually, that reminds me of a state of California (land of the impossible home owner dream:) program that offers all these special deals--no down, low, fixed int. rate--- to neighborhood "heroes": Teachers, firefighters, police.

Yes, they're heroes and I don't begrudge them the help. I just think they might have thouht the program out and expanded it to other needed personnel besides these three distinct groups.

Select Comfort, the makers of the Sleep Number Bed offer a pretty substantial discount on their mattresses for nurses...something like 20%...

That's what one salesman told me, I'm not a nurse yet, so I can't verify it, but if it's true...I plan on getting one of those beds after I graduate!

There used to be a car dealer in the area who offered free lifetime oilchanges for any nurse (only nurses, not any other health care workers) who bought a new car from him. He would advertise that fact in the local nursing newsletter, as well as the regular paper. I always figured his wife or mom was a nurse or something. Great publicity on his part, you know? But also a money saver over the course of a car's lifetime for the nurse.

I'm glad there are at least a handful of appreciative businesses.
