Exactly! I just took care of a teenage patient. Influenza A positive and he had just come from the grocery store with his smock on. Most of our patients are walking in from work with fevers. They took a Tylenol or ibuprofen that morning and went to work or school. Our society values productivity over health!

I am not "living in fear of the people around me", but I do have the right to PPE access at work (for influenza, coronavirus or anything else). Also, having a dialogue on this site is not "spreading terror".
Sadly I agree. Even more sadly I used to work for a hospital that required a sick note from an MD if you called in sick. I also got dinged from them for getting to work late. I'd stopped to help a victim of a roll over on the interstate on my way in. I was working ER at the time and had the guy as a patient when he got to the hospital.
Li Wenliang was only 33 years old when he died. Now 51 year old Wuhan hospital director and neurosurgeon Li Zhiming has passed away from coronavirus. "On Tuesday, state media reported that doctors and nurses who die while trying to contain the outbreak will officially be designated as "martyrs" (CNN). I can't help but wonder if they actually died of the virus or were made martyrs by the Chinese govt.
Here is my summary of this morning's London Imperial College / World Economic Forum briefing:

It's the young ages that are a red flag:
A 29-year-old respiratory doctor in Wuhan, the city at the heart of the coronavirus outbreak in China, died on Thursday night after being infected by the virus, according to an announcement from the hospital where he worked. It was the latest in a string of deaths among health care providers working to contain the outbreak.
The doctor, Peng Yinhua, was also among the youngest of the publicly announced victims of the virus, which has largely killed older men with underlying health conditions (NYT).
Sad to hear about the healthcare workers. Nobody really considers the risk of being in the field. I don't know how many times I've had folks cough directly into my face. Glad to be retired. It is kind of weird though, I don't miss being a nurse except for when I miss being a nurse.
I'm wondering though if anybody is hearing about gag orders for talking about Covid-19 in the workplace. Seems like this would be walking a line between HIPA and freedom of speech. Thoughts anyone?
