Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree

U.S.A. California

Hello Everyone,

I am getting ready to apply to the nursing program this Fall and after months of research I was able to find a school in the high desert here in Southern California that offers the RN-ASN program with no outrageous waiting list. I am currently in the San Fernando Valley and the waiting list for the local schools out here is about a 3 to 4 year wait. I've been in school for far too long so I am determined to finish this as soon as possible. I am willing to move anywhere as long as I don't have to wait 3 to 4 yrs.

My initial question is, Did anyone out there attend Copper Mountain College for the nursing program? Also, is anyone out there currently attending Copper Mountain for the program? I just need some feedback since I am not familiar with the school or the area. My last question is if you are from the area what cities are best to live in? I Googled Joshua Tree and it seems very isolated which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering I am sick and tired of the hustle and bustle of the city. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks a ton!

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

I live over an hour away from there. But it is a very isolated area. I think anywhere you find to live out there would be fairly rural. Sorry I can't provide more info. Good luck to you.

I guess I'm just concerned about where I would be living if I did get into the program out there. I am not familiar with the area so I'm not too sure on what cities people live in that attend this school. Thank you so much for your reply :)

Well i actually used to live in Joshua Tree. It was a very quiet environment. I was thinking about going to copper mountain college but i ended up having to move back to riverside with my parents for a few major reasons.I ended up just doing a lvn nursing program and finished in december. I really enjoyed living out there though. The rent should be cheap anywhere around that area. There wont be any problem with studying. Lol. :D If you don't no anybody out there it might get a little lonely. If thats your passion though i say go for it. You'll get used to it, and meet people, and become an RN.:yeah:

Thank you for your response. I am hoping that I do get accepted right away. What do people normally do out there for fun? and what cities are best to live in?

Well I'd say joshua tree is a good little city to live in. They actually have more than a few nice resturaunts and coffee shops. All the major things to do that are fun are in palm springs. You'll at least be closer to casino morongo and the cabazon outlets. It snows sometimes in winter. Theres a bigger city right off the 60 freeway if you pass the exit to go to joshua tree. sorry having a brain fart but that might be a nice place to live i think you can cut throught the mountains and go throught joshua tree national park to get to copper mountain college.

Hi, I live just down the road from Copper Mountain College, in Yucca Valley. CMC is a young college and has a lovely location up against the hills. Lots of solitude, lots of beautiful desert. Rock climbing in the Monument. Twentynine Palms is about 15 miles to the east, where the Marine Corp Combat Center is located. Joshua Tree has good rents, with great views. I work at the local hospital, Hi-Desert Medical Center in the ER. A busy little ER if I do say. There is little to no smog either with lots of fresh air, and space. I noticed in today's local newspaper they are looking for an instructor for the Allied Nursing Program...hopefully, the position will be filled by the time you start!:):twocents:

Do you climb, or would you like to learn about rock climbing? People come from all over the world to climb at Joshua Tree - and we've driven cross country twice to get there!

Thank you very much for your feedback. I've never been out that way but it sounds amazing! My husband was a Marine and was living in Yuma and he hated it so he's a little worried about living in Joshua Tree. I told him nothing is as bad as Yuma so we should be fine he he he he! (no offense to anyone from Yuma). We do enjoy hiking and it sounds like Joshua Tree has some amazing trails. Regardless, I am still moving out there if I should get into the program. It sounds like it's my only choice in order to finish school soon. Thanks again.

P.S- Rock climbing is definitely something I would love to try and would most likely enjoy :)

Good luck getting in. I applied for this Aug and my application didn't get accepted. To many people have been applying (more than expected) and I was totally shocked when I didn't get in, especially when I did most of my classes at copper mountain. But then we got orders to san Diego, and now we are back. They also have new criteria for the RN next fall which will make it a little harder to get in. They do not have waiting lists starting this next year. Anyways, I applied for the LVN - not to many people applied so I'm hoping I get into this program. It's better than nothing! Good Luck..

and when I say there is no waiting list, it's due to the new system they implemented which weeds out students with low Gpa/points.

Hi thank you for responding. I called and spoke to someone in the nursing department and they said it's fairly quick to get in. Not sure if she was just saying that to make me happy. I'm not too concerned about the low gpa because I've worked my butt off to receive pretty good grades but I'm just worried I will have to wait forever to get into the program. I guess it wouldn't hurt to apply for LVN while I wait to get in if all else fails. Good luck to you as well :)

Yea they told me the same thing over the phone this year and last year..... but they can't control how many people apply I guess..lol. That's what happened last year, tons of people applied, more than ever I heard. I think everyone found out there was no waiting list at Copper and all are coming here for the program..lol.
