Convicted of murder as a teen and now a nurse

Published

I know of someone who was convicted of murder as a teen. I won't go into details because the case is somewhat famous due to the fact there was a made-for-tv movie. The person in question did their time and is now in their 40's and is a RN. They legally changed their name but because some website had this information posted the new name has been discovered.

My question is how does someone who has a murder conviction become an RN. I know that the person was tried as a juvenile and sentenced as one but don't they have to disclose this information to the BON?

I wish TheGooch would weigh in. I guess she is working, or hopefully enjoying Memorial Day weekend!

Over the past few days we have been reading about Josh Duggar molesting his sisters and other young girls when he was 14. I've been reading a lot of comments about how he was just 14 when he did it so who cares. Granted, he didn't kill anyone in cold blood, but it always amazes me how there can be apologists for even the most heinous of crimes.

Even here people are defending someone who murdered someone in cold blood. Only for the reason that she was afraid her victim might tell everyone she was weird. For the people who are saying it might not be the same person all I have to say is I saw the documents pertaining to the name change online before the site pulled it.

As for it being a witch hunt, I only wanted to know how she was able to get a RN license. This topic has been debated enough so I am going to ask the admin to close it.

I can't believe I read the whole thing.

I thought from the very first post, and I still feel that this is none of our business. It's the business of the BON, the legal system, the family of the person that was killed, even the hospital and that community- but none of our business. If she has held a job and done well for twenty years, the community and the hospital is satisfied with her work, who are we to say she shouldn't be there? Who is the OP to start stirring the pot AGAIN after twenty years? It feels like a witch hunt, and I will have no part of it.

Administrators, this thread should be closed.

I always wonder why people defend others who have committed heinous crimes, Maybe you can explain it since you seem to be defending the person I am asking about.

I was a student at the same high school when this happened. Is that good enough reason to want to know why someone who killed one of my fellow classmates in cold blood is not an RN.

From what I have read, this person has been a nurse for several years now. Why is this bothering you now?

Specializes in ED.

I knew you must of known her or something Gooch. It is one thing to ask a question but you are turning this into a vendetta. It isn't healthy to hold onto a grudge for this long. Instead of focusing on what she is or isn't doing, I would say focus on yourself, your own nursing practice and your own peace of mind.
