Are there any controversies surrounding the ANA. I would think that there is something. I can't find any from Nurse Google. Anyone know of any? Maybe I'm just tired and having a brain cramp, thanks for any help!!!

LOL, just their general lack of support for actual nurses, NBD...

What's the actual homework assignment you are trying to complete? That might help people focus the conversation where you want it to go.
As an organization that takes political positions and lobbies for causes, of course you will have some members disagree with any position they take. No matter what position they take on an issue, there are always going to be some people who disagree.

Haha. I thought ANA was Against Nurses Advice! Don't know much about the American Nurses Association.

That's the assignment. What are some of the controversies surrounding the ANA itself. ? I'm trying to help a friend in an ethics class. I'm usually pretty good at googling, not this time. I never had time to be politically active in nursing (always wanted to) and now I'm sick. So not really aware of why some would have an issue with them.

Allnurses members have expressed their concerns re ANA in multiple threads here that one can use as a springboard for ethic discussion:
The ANA supports physician funding over safe patient ratios!
The ANA is worthless, looks down on floor nurses, don't join!
CEO Says More Nurses Won't Improve Care
What one law would most improve nursing?
Nurses are self governed
Fight for Mandated Nurse - Patient Ratios Heats up - Pennsylvania
I've been an active ANA/PSNA (state) member since 1982, as I view it an important part of my professional responsibilities to have MY VOICE heard in shaping our profession.
Conversations with AN members who oppose ANA center around
1. Safe staffing -- ANA does not support mandated ratios, instead supporting adding bedside Registered Nurses (RNs) to unit staffing committees.`
2. Politics- " ANA PAC supports mostly Democrats, don't want my ANA monies going to them." (ANA membership dues are not part of PAC monies). " I don't like ANA's political stance on issues, too liberal".
3. "ANA dues too expensive"--- my dues ~ 28.00/month = 2 pizza's.
4. ANA only cares about APRN's, not bedside nurses.
ANA has posted issues/position statements available here: ANA - issues
