Tonight was busy as usual (stabbing, gsw, MBA, etc), I work at a level ll trauma center. First night I was called a **** and a ***** in one sentence from a drunk that got jumped at a club. I had to leave the room to make sure I keep my job. How do you guys handle belligerent pts who are out of control? Thanks in advance.

I really can't be bothered with someone that has such a limited vocabulary that profanity is the only way the can express themselves indicates to me that they have the IQ of the amount of teeth in their mouth divided by 2.

This just made my day. My sides hurt from laughing so hard. Thanks for that one Esme! :)

When I was working in the state psych hospital, my standby response was, "Oh, I'm sorry. Were you speaking to me?' :)

Worked almost every time.

Lol I'm am avid fan of killing them with kindness, while I'm laughing in their face bc they are being sedated by me, it usually makes me feel so empowered! Oh you want to call me a ***** and tell me I should die? Here, have some geodon and versed... Sweet dreams!

^This is exactly how a nurse inspired me to get into the professionn 25 years ago...are you the nurse??? lol ;)

Been following the same model SINCE entering the profession...along with a tone and aloof expression that knows how to throw down the gauntlet! Keeps me safe...I don't take it personal, which keeps me sane. :)

Lol, I've been a nurse for less than a year, so unless I am a reincarnation it wasn't me... But that nurse sounds pretty awesome ;)

Can't ever take things personal in the ER... Stupidity/insanity can't be helped sometimes... But it most definitely can be sedated :D

Give 'em a 16G to get some fluids..

I call 'em out as much as possible in front of other staff, patients, etc...gladly informing them thats not even the worst I've been called this shift, you're going to have to put your backpack on and go back to school to get me riled up.
