Has anyone else starting nursing school at the age of 45 or so? My youngest will be a senior in high school next year and my other two in college. I have waited a long time to go back to school. I wanted to know if others have gone back in mid life.
I graduate in May and will be 57years old, 45 why your almost a teenager
I just love this thread because I am seeing so many folks who are my age or near. I felt like the only one who was in their second half of life that had ever done this, though I heard of others. I have always been the oldest student and the oldest new hire since I started my pre reqs back at about age 50! I graduated at 55 and turned 56 just after starting my first nursing job. I am about to turn 57 on Monday. I will start the FNP program part time in Jan. and will be either 60 or very near when I graduate if all goes as planned. I will be 60 either way, so why not go for it???? I would have gone to med school had I been in my 40's. "Age ain't nothin' but a number"(Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women).

Go For It.
I'll be 53 when I graduate in May 09 as a RN. Us "older" students bring a wealth of knowledge, experience of the workplace, and working with others to nursing.
( I'm NOT patting my back!)
The options for diversified nursing positions are immense. The need is there due to us aging baby boomers. It's a great opportunity for a rewarding second career.
Go For It.
I am 44 years of age. I am currently finishing up my pre-reqs and will be applying to the nursing program in "09". Becoming a nurse have been a long time dream of mine. I have 3 children. My oldest is in his first year of college. My two younger children are excited about my return to school. They understand the importance of "homework" for mommy:typing.
I have never felt so energized, enthused about learning, and proud to be able to communicate with my older son about the importance of "our" GPA's. I did not think I would be able to handle work, family, school, and still be successful. This is the best move that I have made. My family and I are awaiting the graduating day. I will not give up because of my age, I will try even harder because I doubted myself in the beginning.
I wish everyone lots of luck:yeah:

Stop considering and get in there and do it! You will age whether you are in nursing school or not and instead of following your dream you will instead be left wondering what if? I teach at a community college and we have students who are 18 and students who are nearly 60. This is a GM town with alot of displaced workers in job banks who decided late in life that they should have followed their original dream of nursing instead of following their moms and dads into the shop. I say do it! You will probably be one of the best in your nursing class that has been my experience with "more mature" students. God bless and good luck and go for it!:chuckle
Just returned home from taking the psb test..i passed the science with flying colors! i did horrible on the Verbal section, which consist of math, shapes & vocabulary...The words ere extremely hard! It was tons of words that I've never hear from. They give you 4 words in the word bank and u have to choose the word that does not belong. It's going to be difficult studying for this section seeing that i Websters is full of words! i'm so disappointed!! The PSB test whipped my tail.
