Connecticut Community Colleges - Applying for 2014

Published

I've read through last year's version of this thread 100 times, so I thought I'd start a new one. I'm planning to apply for NCC's 2014 program. I'm taking A&P I right now (A- midterm grade, hoping to make that an A!) and will need to do the software applications class online in the winter session, so I won't be able to submit my app until final grades are out for that. Hopefully I won't be cutting it too close to the Feb 1st deadline! I'm taking my TEAS on November 18th.

Who else is applying? Where are you in the application process? Post your TEAS scores and GPA stats if you know them! My nursing GPA will be almost a 3.8 with an A- in A&P and an A in CSA105, but I dropped out two semesters in a row in 2006 (one semester medically excused but still on my transcript, the other no excuse, just screwed up being 19 and not very serious about my education at that time) I hope those hiccups won't count against me too much, luckily none of the classes I was taking at the time applied to the nursing program.

For some reason I'm not seeing that link. Is it any different than a typical GPA calculator you can find on Google?

Go to Nursing Admissions on your school's website. It will open a PDF file. At the end of the packet(I believe) you can put in the credit and grade you got for the classes and it will calculate. But the classes are different from what the application asks for. You can also go to your unofficial trade script. Take the classes they asked for on the application, add up the credits and the points received. Divide points by number of credits. Hope that helped!

I wrote to one of the nursing advisors about average TEAS/A&P/GPA's/number of seats and this is what she said:

"Yes the program is very competitive. Typically we receive a few hundred applications, 70% of which will meet criteria. Of those students those accepted by rank have TEAS scores in the 70’s, GPA’s over 3.2 and A & P grades higher than the C+ minimum but you do not need and A in the course. Every year is different and you don’t know what the scores will be of the other students who are applying at the same time so obviously your job is to do well in A & P and on your TEAS exam. We expect to admit 80 students for next year."

Those stats don't really seem to be consistent with what I've read here. "Over 3.2" seems so generalized and even 70's on the TEAS sounds low to me. But what do I know! Any thoughts? Is this a canned response or what?

They admit 96 students. 48 for Fall and 48 for Spring. I was told that the first 48 are best of the best, all A's, best TEAS. Then the other 48 are random. That is just what I heard. But I know people with 4.0's who haven't gotten in as well. She is right though, it really depends on the group of applicants that year.

I scored an 85.3 on my TEAS exam today. I'm fairly happy, but I think I might want to retake it. My A&P grade is an A- right now with two tests and a final exam to go. I'm not so sure I can get it up to an A, but I'm fighting for every point! What do you guys think?

You can do it!! An A- is great and with two tests, you should be able to get it up!! Good luck: -)

Hi everyone!

I have also read through last year's forum several times,

written down their stats and then followed to see who did and didn't get in. (I know...I felt a little crazy!)

I will be done with my pre reqs this semester--taking A&P II, English Lit, Sociology,

and three other electives because I want to graduate with an associate's degree next spring

before (hopefully) starting Nursing next fall.

I will be applying to Capital, and am really hoping this works out,

since I haven't invested myself much into a back up plan.

My Nursing GPA is 3.89, A in A&P I, and TEAS 72%.

I will be retaking TEAS in hopes of getting

it up to high 70s at least.

For some reason, even though I studied for it, I couldn't get the score I expected,

but I am thinking(READ:hoping) that my Nursing GPA may work in my favor since it's 50% of the admission.

I did the SAME thing, so don't feel too bad haha. If you can get that TEAS grade up I think you'll be in really good shape for this year!

And here I am again! Last year I've got waitlisted at GCC (22) I'm currently taking micro so far I have an A, and retaking A & P I because I had a B before, so far I have A- now but one more exam to take, hoping to bring it to an A or at least keep what I have. Teas score is 69.3 retaking it next month and a 3.66 GPA. I'll be applying to GCC again and BHSN for the first time. I'm 43 years old and I can't waste another year so if I don't get in this time I'll look into another Bachelors Degree so I can apply later at SCSU as a graduate to the ACES program. I hope I still have the energy to keep going after all this ugh! anyone previously waitlisted and reapplying this year? Any plan B ideas? I wish you all the best!

I was waitlisted last year at TRCC. I am finishing up Micro now and will be working in the Spring to save up money. Staying positive about starting in Fall. I think if I get waitlisted again, I'll be looking into UCONN' s traditional BSN and Salve Regina's traditional BSN in Newport.

Personally, if you are 43, I wouldn't waste the time with BHSN, it is expensive for a diploma and you will still have to go back for your BSN. Many hospitals aren't even taking ADN's, so they definitely won't look at diploma. Just my two cents. It is a wonderful program though.

Thank you! You're right! I took the teas exam again on Friday and we lost internet connection in the middle of it, then, we had a fire alarm going at the building ugh. Luckily today I got an email form the coordinator, I can take the teas over whenever I want before Feb 1, with no charge, I've got a 69.3 with all the inconveniences that day so I'm hoping to get a higher score the next time. Thank you for your advice.
