I recently took nclex in November 08 and failed. It is time for me to re register and retake the nclex but i am confused. I am reading over the application for re-write and it says I should have received results in the mail after failing the nclex the first time and I did't. Can anyone tell me If I should have reveived something in the mail after failing nclex and how i get them cause it would be nice to know my weak areas or how close i was to passing. Thanks.

You should have received an NCLEX-RN (or PN) Candidate Performance Report from National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). It will give you a break down of all of the content areas (8 areas: Safety and Infection; Reduction of Risk; Health Promotion; Management of Care; Pharm/Parenteral Therapies; Psychosocial Integrity; Physiological Adaptation and Basic Care/Comfort). With each area it will indicate if you are "BELOW" the passing standard; "NEAR" the passing standard or "ABOVE" the passing standard. Also with each content area it provides important information that you should focus on....the nursing information/content that is covered for each area.
Did you receive a letter from your states Department of Health Professions (or whatever it may be called in your area)? You should have. You may have overlooked your content areas because it is located on the BACK of your ID page (the page showing your picture ID). If you did not recieve your NCLEX performance evaluation, just contact the department and ask them to send you another one. You really need to have this so that you will know what to focus your studying on. Even though you should review as much of nursing content as possible before you take your boards again, the Candidate Performance Report will let you know which areas, if any, you may have tested "BELOW" passing standard. This along with "NEAR" passing is what you need to focus on before you take your next board.
You may feel alone right now; but you are definitely not. I also failed NCLEX at 75 questions this past November 08. I knew I had failed before I walked out of the testing center. I was a complete wreck the morning of my exam and panicked--lost all train of thought. But the failure is behind me now. It HAS TO BE or I will not be able to prepare for my next NCLEX. I am scheduling myself to take my boards again in mid February.
Get your Candidate report and then prepare your "game" plan to study for the next 4-6 weeks so that you can take the NCLEX again.
Wishing you the best. I KNOW we WILL pass this exam on our 2nd try!!!
Have a great 2009!!!
this is my first time replying to a post and i don't think it did it right the first time. let's try this again...

Good luck to you. I passed on my third attempt, so never give up. The first time, I used strictly Kaplan questions, the computer shut off at 75. The second time, I used NCSBN Learning Extention, the computer turned off at 265. This last time I used Saunders and Hesi together and I really paid attention to the rationales and if still didn't understand, I looked at different sources like wiki. The computer shut off at 85 with a pass. My license just got here today. Also, I put in a good 4-5 hours a day for study time, sounds like a lot but it goes by fast with reading and answering questions. Also, I have read a lot about the success of "suzzanne's plan" posted on this site. try that, I was goin to if I hadn't passed this last time.
Thank you! I already have the book that goes with suzanns plan so Im going to try that.

hey slmeloy you should never give up on retaking the nclex. you went to school and did all that hard work on passing the nursing course, it is worth retaking over. i have took the nclex several times now and i am kinda
embarrassed to mention how many times. i just took my nclex test again on 02/02/09. i am waiting for my results and i hope this time, god will answer my prayers on passing this test and being done with it.
