Confused pre-nursing major

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey everyone!

I'm a community college student and i'll be done with prerequisites by spring 2014 and my GEs by summer 2014. I haven't taken the TEAs just yet.

As of right now, I'm planning on applying to SJSU, SFSU, CSUS, and CSULB's nursing program. The application deadline to enter the school by Fall 2014 is November 30th and I was wondering if I should apply then or next year? Please correct me if I'm wrong but, I will not be able to apply to the nursing programs unless I'm done with most of my prereqs and tests.

Is it possible for me to start a nursing program by Fall 2014 or would I have to wait another year. If I did have to wait another year to apply, what should I do during that time gap? Do I need to take higher division GEs?

Sorry if this thing is all over the place and thanks in advance!

If you want to start in Fall 2014 you'd need to apply now. Your application will let you show which classes you still have in-progress and then you'd forward the school your final grades after the spring and summer semester and forward your TEAS as soon as you've taken it.

I'd only do this if you've gotten straight A's in your prereqs and if you don't have many classes to finish. The reality is you're competing for application against other people who do have their classes and TEAS completed. A better option may be to check into programs that will begin in Spring 2015 so you be a stronger candidate.

If you want to take a chance and apply for Fall 2014, just apply to your top choice school. It can cost $100 or more for each application, so don't waste your money.
