Confused on what LPN school to attend. Help.

U.S.A. New Jersey

So I am utterly confused on what school to attend, who is accredited, who isnt, what school is good, and so on.

I wanted to go to Lincoln Tech but I heard so many negative things about this school, then I decided to go to Dover but again I heard some scary things that have really made me unsure about where to go. I know there are so many schools to choose from but I need to know legitimate schools in Passaic/Bergen county area, a school that will be worth me going to. Does anyone have any advice or incite on any schools? Thanks in advance for your help!

Ok so I bought McGraw-Hills Nursing School Entrance Exams omgsh if your stumped on math this book is perfect! It completely breaks down the math for you! I don't know about any other part of the book only cuz my weakest area was math so I haven't really bothered with any other part. I rented the book online for only 5 bucks and I paid and extra 3 dollars just to get it sooner and it came the next day! My mother in law works for Christian health care center and they pay lpns excellent and they have good benefits! Lpns can work in nursing homes and get paid well girly, you don't have to spend All this money on lpn schooling just to end up as a medical assistant Or nurse assistant what a waste of schooling! Plus I'm a medical assistant and trust me you don't make excellent money. My friend as an MA w her certification as an MA, EKG, and phlebotomy was making 20 an hour in Montclair but she was with that doctor for 6 years. I was only making 16 then I moved on to a become a dental manager and made 23 an hour but I wasn't happy there you know, I have always wanted to be a nurse so I'm going to Persue my dream. I figured I can do LPN then start working after I finish. Then go straight into the RN schooling to become an RN.

I know I'm late on this thread and this is not in your area but I am enrolled in a LPN class in Denville, NJ at MCST its only $6400 for in county and $7500 for out of county also Essex County College has a LPN program. Hope this helps.

Hey JT thanks for the info buddy!

Specializes in med/surg- sub-acute, LTC,ICU,.

check with your county vocational schools. They are usually accredited and the tuition is considerably less than hohokus, lincoln tech etc. Good luck!

Hi Melissa,

I agree with the above reagrding vocational schools. I'm attending Middlesex County Votech starting Sept. 7th. The in county is $4350 and out of county is $5350. I'm not sure about other programs, but mine offers day or evening programs, and they have plenty of clinical sites. They offer spring and fall start dates also. I interviewed with Lincoln Tech as well, but felt pressured from the second I called- the director was calling me every day for 3 weeks. Plus, the tuition was around $23,000, and the reviews I've read for LT were less than flattering.

Hope this helps, and best of luck with whatever path you choose!

whatever you do, stay far away from dover lol i graduated thier program but it was a serious challenge alot of the teachers thier are cruel, rude, and do not care about the students, in fact they get off on failing alot of people. i also graduated with honors thanks to my own hard work and study:twocents:

When it comes to questioning certain schools, you can always go to www.complaintsboard.com and search the school i.e. Lincoln tech and see all the complaints if any about the institution. FYI, there are alot of complaints against Lincoln Tech...so BEWARE! Usually for-profit schools are not a good choice cause they only want one thing...your money...and the recruiters make commission, that's why they harass you.

Just reading this post and wanted to add that I 'm going to meet with Eastwick Co. at Ramsey. Their program starts in january of 2011 for LPN 12 months and after you can take a bridge program to RN for another 12 months. I'm currently in HCCC. I didn't pass the exam to Bayonne Nursing School (by 1 point, sucks) and waiting to take a test to get into Christ Hospital. My neighbor just finished Lincoln Tech(edison Campus). She liked it but said that her friend went to Paramus and liked it more. If you only want to do LPN I guess its k. I was looking for accredited school. Eastwick has a bridge program with Felician and some other College to get your BSN or MSN. There is an entrance exam To Eastwick but Im meeting with someone today and will let you know about tuition and exam. I read that it's hard and out of 140 student only 50 passed the lpn exam.

Hope this helps

Gillian,

I was interested in going to the Hackensack Ho Ho Kus school. I went there and didn't pass the math practice test so I went back (after studying like crazy) and passed everything. I paid $45 and scheduled the Teas entrance exam to take in 2 weeks. If I pass that then I would get put in the January 2011 Lpn class, if I dont pass then I think they said you have to wait 2 months to retake it. But they had said after graduating the LPN school and getting your state certification then you have to work as a LPN for a year before entering the RN program. They also said by that time ( I would be going to night classes so the course would be 18 months long) they should have the RN course at that campus. Also tuition is 20k but they do offer fiancial aid. That doesnt get discussed till you pass the Teas test though

thanks Julia. I will let you know if there is anything different at Eastwick College. They told me that they already have an RN program, thats why I'm going over there tonight to speak to the Rep.

Thanks! Ramsey is just a branch from the Hackensack one. They are both Eastwick. I bought the Barrons study guide and the McGraw-Hill one. Both are very good. I'm just thankful there isn't any Science questions on the tests. Let me know what they say!
