Confidence; Okay with failure

I scan this forum now and then and I'm surprised about how many people are not confident in their critical thinking skills and their knowledge base.

I know many people fail once, twice, three times, etc and are very upset about it, but if I were to fail I would be thankful. I'd rather not pass than be an unsafe RN waving my license in the air and end up making a serious mistake. Chances are you will make a mistake as a newbie anyway, so why make the chances any higher? Not passing gives you more time to review what you are lacking in critical thinking or understanding.

As for me, I know I will rock it. I am confident and have a positive attitude. I believe my school prepared me for the critical thinking (maybe not so much the practical part of it).

    People care because one, that test is not cheap. Two, it's time consuming. Three, some people suffer from testing anxiety. And four, some new grads receive jobs contingent upon passing NCLEX on the first try. Some people have a lot at stake.

    I do think your perspective is a good one. The goal is to be a safe nurse. I also tend to believe that if you can be confident, you will do well; you won't second guess yourself.

    I like your attitude and the way you see things. I look at it kind of the same way also. If I don't pass I don't pass, if I do I do. I'll keep studying it won't hurt me.

    I already have an offering for a job at the hospital I work at but I didn't apply until I pass the NCLEX.

    I spoke with the director on my department and told me to focus on the passing the test first and then apply to relive some of the pressure.

    I work with nurses every day and talk to them. Most passed the first time but some had to take it two or three times. There was this story going around about this really good nurse that had test anxiety and had to take the test a whole year to pass it.

    So for the people that have a lot at stake or have test anxiety or whatever all they can do is to keep studying. Stressing out its going to add to the hardship. At a unit conversation Director said 10% in life is what happens and 90% is how we deal with it.

    With that being said I won't grow grey hair over this stupid test. I'll keep studying until I pass. I totally agree with the OP on his attitude. Good Luck OP.
