Concordia College (NY) ABSN Fall 2010

U.S.A. New York

Anyone applying to Concordia's program in Bronxville, NY for the fall? Haven't seen a thread for it yet!

yeah i know! i applied basically because the application was free lol. i realized all of that halfway through the application process so i just went ahead with it... at least i didn't waste money lol.

Please take my advice as a current student in the accelerated program. Stick with whatever other options you all are interested in. This is the most unorganized, we do whatever we feel this week program I have ever enrolled in. Yes the interview process is great, the campus is small and nice, but once your tuition is paid all those nice caring attitudes go out the window. You all should ask them if they can give you statistics on what percentage of the class is on academic probation. No Im not one of them but I was amazed to find out how many students are struggling, not due to lack of studying, rather the ridicilous exams they give. we practice with NCLEX 4000 questions outside of class and the a large portion of the material we learn in class are no where to be found on actual NCLEX questions. I can't complain to much I have made it through so far, and doing well however if I had to do it all over againI wouldve gone elsewhere.I can answer more specific questions if you post any.

@ Saveyourself, I am disappointed to hear of this and sorry for what seems like a great struggle for some at Concordia...since I've already made my choice, please enlighten me some more; how 'unorganized' are we talking here--I hear a lot of complaints of this in many nursing programs in general. Also you seem to be doing ok and making it thru thus far, what's been the most challenging? Any input on your experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Haha me too!! In fact that was the first application that I sent in--because it was free! :)

I was accepted to Concorda ABSN as well! What is the status of accreditation? I am nervous about entering without the accreditation. Thanks in advance.

@ sidcasey: Congratulations! I asked about it and was told that they should be receiving the official word sometime this month in fact!! (fingers crossed)

I am also looking forward to Concordia Interview for ABSN. Now I am really confused what to expect.. I have been waiting for this program since last year and was very excited. I am planning to relocate if get accepted. But Saveyourself I am really nervous about their NCLEX passing rate. Have you all tried to bring this issue up with Student Affairs? I think all current students need to talk to Dean over improvement of their curricullum.. Dont you think?

When I went up to Concordia for a visit, they said fall 2010 would be their 3rd (or 4th? Can't remember) class for the absn program. I talked to a student in the program as well (earlier this year) and she said that so far only 1 class has taken the nclex, and of those that have taken it, they have all passed on the first try so far. granted, she's the only person in the program I've talked to. I haven't been able to talk to any other students on here that are in the program...The one thing about a new program is that there really isn't much stats. If I went to concordia I'd be relocating too (from Texas).

I called today to inquire about the status of accreditation. The secretary seemed "positive" that they were to receive the official word in the next week or so. Based upon their review for accreditation the faculty seems quite confident. Keeping my fingers crossed.

genu9ine

i will be relocating from texas as well. i have spoken to dean, she sounded positive about accreditation. although, this is a new program but i would like to think positive instead of being negative at this moment. i have wasted almost a year in waiting list. i am ready to move on otherwise this would be my last semester in college. i am about to give up. let's find out more. if i am not wrong, every college would be unorganized when they start their new program. curricullum gets better each year as they grow. what do you think?

Hey All,

According to Concordia's website:

http://www.concordia-ny.edu/assets/pdf/admission/nursing/accreditation.pdf

"Accreditation Status Update

The Division of Nursing at Concordia College New York hosted a successful Collegiate

Commission on Nursing (CCNE) accreditation visit November 11th through 13th. The

Evaluation Team report indicates that all CCNE Standards have been met and that there

are no compliance concerns. The team report will be considered at the meeting of the

Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) on February 11-13, 2010. This committee will

formulate a recommendation about accreditation, which will be considered by the CCNE

Board at its meeting on April 22-24, 2010. "

So it will be soon! I'm looking to apply for Fall 2011, especially if the accreditation goes through!

That's great hope we all get accepted. Good luck to you all..

@tjdapryl The faculty makes up the rules as they go along. For example we have a final at 1:30pm today and they sent out an email yesterday at 3:45pm that we were having this final in a little more than 24hrs. There is a great lack of communication between faculty, and students. We take exams and do not get our grades back until often times 3 weeks after we have taken the test, so your basically clueless as to where you stand grade wise. You can be on exam #2 and still asking for the results from the first one. I heard they do this other nursing schools as well but you never get your test back to take home and review. You basically have to memorize what questions you got wrong when they review the exam and hand it back. Dont get me wrong I do understand that a lot of nursing programs have problems but the added stress that you get from this program being so disorganized because of the faculty is not helpful when your already on an accelerated pace. Its pretty much a general feelings amongst the class but i'm writing this because I wish someone read me the fine print prior to me applying, because I truthfully would not do it again.

As a current student of the second cohort, so far everyone who has taken the NCLEX has passed. There stats are 100% however keeping in mind that the graduating class consisted of only about 14-17 students from the original 24 that started back in the Fall 08.
