Concorde Career Institute (Colorado)

U.S.A. Colorado

Hi,

I am new here and am trying to get into nursing school in Colorado, however the wait lists here are crazy!!! I am looking into Concorde Career Institutes (they have no wait), ADN program. I wanted to know if this is a reputable program, and will it be looked at highly by employers?? Please help, my other option is Denver School of Nursing but they dont offer any student aid:o

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Jennifer

Oh, couple of things....what are the days and hours for classes? Do they offer night classes, or only during the daytime. And what about clinicals? Can it be any shift? Do they have clinical sites just around Denver? And how long is the program? Thanks again.

I asked Concorde about the LPN program and a bit about the MA program (medical assistant). Would like to know more about the RN program. I believe it's only been in place for one year. So . . . 8-3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, for the first 2 terms. There are 5, 10-week terms. LPN program starts every 3 months. Clinicals start the third term and can be ALL OVER the metro area and I think any shift. No LPN classes during the evening. You talk to the financial aid person who can give you a rough idea of what grants and loans you'd qualify for. If there's anything not covered by a loan, you'd have to come up with the rest of the money somehow (through another loan or something like that) and pay by the time you start. You take a 12 minute Wonderlic test which is no biggie.

Hope this helps.

That does help. I have tried contacting them but no one will get back to me yet. Can you continue your education afterwards? I know that no schools will accept Platt's credits if you go there (which is too bad, it is so close to me). But I eventually want a BSN and possibly an MSN.

Did you try contacting them using the online form? That's what I used and someone called me within a day or two:

You know, I'm not sure, but it may be the same situation as Platt College, i.e., I don't know what happens to the credits down the road, if they are accepted elsewhere or not. I was just checking the Colorado BON site for the NCLEX pass rates and I didn't see Platt College listed. Did they not graduate a class yet? Your goals are different from mine because you'd like to go on with advanced degrees. Given my stage and age in life, I don't feel like I necessarily want to do that. I know Concorde has people available during evenings if you want to talk to them. Maybe you can get more financial aid then you think even though you're concerned about your credit rating.

I agree with the person who replied that this has to be a calling (and a passion). Otherwise, how could you put yourself through all the hard work (and cost) that's involved.

Yes, I have tried to online contact form twice, and no one has gotten in touch with me. Maybe I should just call them....but it is kinda aggravating that they don't want to contact me.

I am currently in the ADN program at the CCC Aurora campus with 15 weeks left until graduation. Heck yeah it's crazy, and it is certainly the hardest thing I have done in my life yet. But you get out what you put in to it, as with anything in life! It really depends on how badly you want to make it happen. I would be willing to bet that no one out there ever told you that Nursing school would be easy - so if it is what you really want... you can do it!

Regarding the LPN program: Three of the very best nurses I have ever worked with are Concorde Grads. Their expertise, knowledge, and confidence is what helped me to make the final decision to go to Concorde. I wanted what they had! Concorde's LPN program is much older which is part of what makes it so much better, the ADN program is only a few years old so still has quite a few wrinkles (major bumps) to iron out. But nothing that can't be handled. The LPNs coming out of here are like rock stars! So far the RN students are the same - doing excellent, passing the NCLEX on the first try, and getting hired without a problem!

This will answer questions about accreditation.

Good Luck and God speed. Life is about what YOU make of it!

Awesome! Congrats on the upcoming graduation. :) I forgot to ask about the LPN-RN bridge program at Concorde -- do you know anything about that? I'd love to know. Do you know of any graduates from Concorde's LPN program that went on into their LPN-RN bridge program?

Congrats, D'sGirl :yeah:

I can only imagine how busy you are with the ADN program, but to me the best info I could possibly get is from someone who's actually doing it. Please feel free to answer (or not, whatever you're comfortable with):

Do you get any breaks between any of the terms?

How are the teachers - helpful, concerned, etc. - is there a lot of teacher turnover?

How many started the class and how many are there now?

How are clinicals going - learning a lot? - what's the farthest away you've had to go for one?

I was told by the MA at my doctor's office (who went to Concorde) that it was a great program. Recommendations by people who've gone/are going there are the best recommendations to me. It will really help my decision process.

Good Luck and God speed. Life is about what YOU make of it!

You're positive attitude is catching - that's how you get it done

Thanks in advance :bowingpur

Two of my buddies graduated with the Jan '08 class doing the bridge program, and a friend that is in class with me is also doing the bridge. We have 7 LPN in our class I believe. I have been told it is expensive, but that goes without saying. Short term sacrifices for the long term goals you know? They all have done/are doing fine. No problems other than the normal ones! LOL

Let's see... The sessions are 10 weeks long with a week in between. I think we have some great teachers, some awesome teachers and some not so awesome in the class, but rock stars in the clinicals. Not everyone is a good lecturer, but what they can SHOW you is fantastic.

There has been some teacher turn over in the past. Personally I can't imagine taking a major paycut to teach a class room full of Nursing students... The reason there is a nursing shortage is because there is a shortage of nursing instructors. Concorde is also a corporation, you have to realize that what they expect out of their instructors is more that what a regular college would. These people have to work their a**es off for us. The first two classes graduated right at 50% of the students that started. Our class started with around 30, some from previous classes joined our, and we haven't lost any body! We are a huge class of about 42... It's crazy!

Ok, so with that said - any wonder that our clinicals are all over Denver Metro? They have to work hard to find places for all of us! I commute from Longmont, and I think our furthest (for me) clinical will be this session when we have to go to Ft. Logan for psych. CCC has some great study resources though and I downloaded mp3 files of lectures for every class I have. I just drive and listen to my radio. I refuse to let the commute be a waste of my study time! :specs:

I hope some of this helps. It is crazy, it is hard, but if there is a nursing school that isn't... not sure I want to work with those nurses... Ya know?

D'sGirl - You can't imagine how helpful your comments are for me. This is exactly the kind of stuff I need to hear - and the comments about the teachers are right on as well.

I'm motivated to see just how I can come up with the money (the part of the tuition I'd need to come up with). Leprechauns - Please stop by our house if you're dropping off any pots of gold today :p

Thank you so much! :yeah:

It has been a hard road for me, but I had inspiration. I think the best advice anyone could give is to hang on to your dreams, don't give up on what you want. I started out the program counting the weeks. Every Friday was another huge landmark... pretty soon I will be counting the days!

I didn't realize your RN class was as big as it is - I was given the impression when I went to the school that they'll admit about 20 for the next class. The more the merrier!

Your enthusiasm and excitement are contagious, D'sGirl :lol2: It give me a lot of hope that maybe I CAN do this after all - even though I'd bet the farm that I'll be the oldest student.
