**2015** Compressed Nursing Programs Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone!

Its that time of year again, and I'm already gearing up for compressed nursing applications! I figured I'd get the ball rolling so that we can all shed a little light on admissions/GPA/supplementary information we each find out, and to ask questions, to help each other through this stressful process!

I am a Kin Grad from UW, and will be applying to Western, McMaster, York, Trent and Queens accelerated nursing programs. I've enrolled as a post-grad at UW this year to pick up some pre-req's such as microbiology and philosophy for York, and a 0.5 credit psych course.

Last year I applied late March to Trent (it was the only application still open), and was accepted. However, I decided to wait another year and see if I can go to school closer to home (Waterloo). My cGPA is 76%, and last two years is 88% (this will be more helpful for comparisons once admissions decisions come around!)

So far I have learned:

- avoid taking the York microbiology course offered online - apparently it is confusing and terribly hard

- 6.0 credits and 3.0 credits are equivalent to 1.0 and 0.5 credits, respectively

- make sure you take biology 230 and 235 through Athabasca to really, really, really cover your bases (noted on the 2014 second-entry forum)

- use this chart to calculate your cGPA/GPA by equating EACH grade you have earned to the 4.0 scale, then finding the average

I'm wondering:

- what is your cGPA/GPA (not necessary, though)

- where your applying, and why

- favourite schools

- your potential supplementary application details

- what are your concerns, or questions?

Let's help each other out in the spirit of nursing!

Good luck to everyone, and hopefully I'll see you in class one day!

congrats to all that have received offers..i applied to trent, Uof T, Western, queen, McMaster,Nissiping.I hope I get into one.

Trent's cutoff in 2013 was 80%.There's a rumour in went up in 2014, but I'm not sure if it's true.

Congrats to those that have been accepted! I applied just to Western!

Hey everyone, I got into Western today!!!!:D:roflmao:

I sobbed like a baby!!!!

Meloh

Hey everyone, I got into Western today!!!!:D:roflmao:

I sobbed like a baby!!!!

Congratulations Meloh.....and if possible could let me know what ur CGPA please

wow! congrats!

Does UWO look at last two years or last 10 credits? I already have a degree.

My school doesn't release official grades till mid feb so when I applied.. my transcript didnt have the one course I was taking sept-dec 2014.

You guys think they will include that one grade in the gpa calculations..

I'm wondering if I should re-send my transcript with my fall grades... hmmm (stupid questions maybe lol)

@darkheart91 @Maky @nursing2015

To be completely honest, I did SIX YEARS of undergrad (switched majors.. blah), cGPA is maybe... 78%, last 10 credits is 89%.

My #1 school is McMaster though, so I'll have to wait a bit longer to see! They only begin to admit around the end of March I believe. UWO gave me until March 20th to decide, so I'm going to hold out till last minute to hear from Mac.

HAS ANYONE ELSE APPLIED TO MAC?

Hello all,

Newbie here. I was getting so anxious waiting to hear back from my schools (applied to Western & Nipissing) and saw this forum as a good way to bide my time while I wait!

First off, congrats to all those who have been accepted into their respective programs! Being relatively new to nursing, I admit I was rather ignorant to just how competitive it can be! Congrats to all for making it through!

I was curious how those who have been accepted to Western heard about their acceptance? Did you just notice it on your student centre? Or did you receive an email as well?

Thanks in advance!

I have a question... It seems like a few people are in the position of possibly accepting a 2nd choice offer to secure it while they hold out for their first choice.

I've been accepted to Trent, but I'm desperate for U of T! If I accept Trent ( I need to do it before April 3rd, likely before I'll hear from U of T), will U of T see that I accepted them? Will that impact the likelihood of U of T offering me admission?

Also, does anybody know if you have to put a deposit down when you accept on OUAC?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I applied to uwo, u of t, york, humber, nippising, trent, queens, mcmaster, u of a, ubc, and trent. I got into trent but that's my last choice as it's the longest program. I applied last year to u of t, york and uwo very last minute and didn't get into any of them, missing some pre-reqs and did very bad 2 sentence answers on the supplement application for u of t so it's completely understandable that I didn't get in. My cGPA is low, 3rd year was my worst year with a 74% average, 4th year i got a 84% average, and I decided to come back to western for another full year to increase my average, getting only 94-98s I am hopefully. However, I'm really worried that they're offer my admission/rejection mostly based on my 3rd and 4th years since I'm not done this year yet and they can't see all my marks. Congrads to who got into UWO! I'm anxiously checking every few hours even though I know we won't get most until end of march-june. I hate this waiting!!

Hey- do you mind me asking what average you had in the last 10 credits for Trent?

Got into Lakehead so far but thats it.

Also applied to Humber, Nipissing, Trent
