**2015** Compressed Nursing Programs Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone!

Its that time of year again, and I'm already gearing up for compressed nursing applications! I figured I'd get the ball rolling so that we can all shed a little light on admissions/GPA/supplementary information we each find out, and to ask questions, to help each other through this stressful process!

I am a Kin Grad from UW, and will be applying to Western, McMaster, York, Trent and Queens accelerated nursing programs. I've enrolled as a post-grad at UW this year to pick up some pre-req's such as microbiology and philosophy for York, and a 0.5 credit psych course.

Last year I applied late March to Trent (it was the only application still open), and was accepted. However, I decided to wait another year and see if I can go to school closer to home (Waterloo). My cGPA is 76%, and last two years is 88% (this will be more helpful for comparisons once admissions decisions come around!)

So far I have learned:

- avoid taking the York microbiology course offered online - apparently it is confusing and terribly hard

- 6.0 credits and 3.0 credits are equivalent to 1.0 and 0.5 credits, respectively

- make sure you take biology 230 and 235 through Athabasca to really, really, really cover your bases (noted on the 2014 second-entry forum)

- use this chart to calculate your cGPA/GPA by equating EACH grade you have earned to the 4.0 scale, then finding the average

I'm wondering:

- what is your cGPA/GPA (not necessary, though)

- where your applying, and why

- favourite schools

- your potential supplementary application details

- what are your concerns, or questions?

Let's help each other out in the spirit of nursing!

Good luck to everyone, and hopefully I'll see you in class one day!

If your average is in the 90s like you said in previous posts I am sure you will get into Western. When I asked them they said it is normally between an 85-86%

Congrats to everyone who got in!

I'm nervously waiting for Humber. I didn't get in last year and ended up going back to upgrade my GPA. Hopefully this year is the year!

Good luck to everyone

I was accepted into Trent's compressed nursing program this morning!! For anyone waiting, you might want to check under "admission status" rather than the main page since that is what updated first for me! I'm so excited!! Good luck everyone!!

congrats!! would you mind be asking what you GPA was for your last 10 university credits?

Thanks! I have a 3.58 GPA in my last 10 credits (based on UofT's 4.0 scale) and I'm currently in my final semester at UofT.

@meloh congrads! I applied to both western and mac, I haven't heard from western but I got denied from mac already :(

Hey- do you mind me asking what average you had in the last 10 credits for Trent?

Got into Lakehead so far but thats it.

Also applied to Humber, Nipissing, Trent

I think i have a 3.8ish GPA but im not too sure. cGPA is lower, 3.4 i think? I got into york as well but denied from mac.

my average this year is in the 90s, but some are full courses and some are half courses so they don't all show up on my transcript yet. do you know if theres a way to send in my midterm marks?

has anyone heard from humber, u of t, and queens yet? Does anyone know anything about nippising? I applied but the supplementary essay is only due April 1st. Not sure if its worth it if I get into other places? Does anyone have any information about this program?

Just a heads up to everyone, it's my understanding that Nipissing cancelled their program for Fall 2013 entry last minute. They had a class all lined up ready to attend, and then cancelled it in August. It left a whole class of students, including one of my friends stranded and frantically trying to find other schools to attend.

I applied to Nipissing as a complete backup but it scares me that it's so new and potentially unstable. I tried to get information from the program coordinator, who confirmed it happened but didn't give reasons. Now that I at least know I'm into Trent, I've decided not to complete my supplementary application for Nipissing.

@jlouro, how did you find out that Mac denied you already? I didn't realize they sent out rejections before they even accepted everyone...

I logged into the mac website and it says denied vs. all the other options. It has not letter attatched so I'm not sure why yet. I did have a computer glitch when submitting the supplement application and it only submitted 15 mins after the due date (12:15am) sooo i'm not sure if they were that strict with it or not. If so, that really sucks.
