Complying with CA BON deficient courses

As the title states for the folks that have to take certain courses such as OB, MS or either Psyc, has anyone visited and spoken to any Nursing directors at the approved CA BON Nursing Schools listed on the website?

If so please share us your thoughts on the matter, it would help thousands of Nursing Graduates that received this special requirement that we need to comply with the CA BON before NCLEX examination.

You need to take that particular school's pre-testing in both English and Math, you must score very high in the TEAS exam, there may be other pre-testing you need to take and pass, as each school is different, then you're allowed to apply for the missing or needed courses. This process also could take months.

Is that for ALL students or just international students? What if you're already a US citizen and CA resident?

Btw, none of my friends nor I have been having any luck with getting into any classes from the Bay Area to San Diego fo over a year, but maybe someone here one day will be successful and if you do, please post up your story.

Everyone and anyone wanting to enroll into the nursing program or their college, it doesn't matter if you're a foreign or CA resident or whatever, it's a testing exam that covers a lot of subjects and a requirement to be considered.

There are books and videos to help out. The thing is one MUST have high test score results to even apply as you're going up against many others. I read that if you're in the high 85%, you're safe, but doesn't mean you'll get accepted as there are other factors that "weed" out the competition: high GPA's, great letter of recommendations, anything that helps your application to see that you're a well rounded person, like volunteer work.

TEAS Test

You're allowed to take the test twice in a year, so make your first attempt a success!

We called or contacted EVERY school and college that's listed in the CA BON approved list, it took a while for some reply back by e-mail.

According to the Admin Asst, admission to MS and OB classes is dependent on the Director of Nursing and upon completion on the following requirements: 1. Toefl minimun score 2132. Written recommendation from someone who is knowledgeable about the candidate3. Nursing entrance exam test4. Personal interview5. CPR/BLS6. Fire safety card7. Completed health insurance8. policy9. Criminal background10. Adequate transportation11. Current driver's license and auto insurance

$700/unit. OB theory and clinical 5 units. Same with MS.

My added information is that it's over $7,000 just for the courses and you need to maybe $1,000's more for the books and supplies.

Tuition cost must be paid for in advance or before the start of classes.

I don't know if enrollment is limited.

And so far, National University offers these classes but there are already 10 foreign graduates in the waiting list. My husband's on the 11th slot. The good thing is their classes are on a monthly basis. It means you don't have to wait another semester to take MS or OB whichever comes first to enroll it. Problem is, NAtional University only takes 1-2 persons from the wait list per year. However, it was mentioned to us when we spoke to *****, Admissions Advisor that the the class usually takes 20 students maximum. Maybe, if the wait list comes to 20 then we then can request from National University to create a separate class. I am most willing to help since I am very aware of this concurrency problem affecting the foreign graduate nurses nowadays.

FYI, MS theory and clinical take 2 months to complete. Same with OB. Cost $1467 for theory and $1467 + $675 for clinical. About $326/unit. Roughly, you need about $7218. Just be guided.

To be included in the wait list, email a copy of the letter from the CA BRN of your deficiency to:

No, I can't afford the $$$ tuition and books and supplies cost.

But since it sounds like you're willing to relocate and sounds like you can pay the tuition, then, YES!

Call the numbers provided and or e-mail the two schools as soon as possible, once you meet the other requirements as mentioned, just go for it, why wait any longer?

You can't just enroll right away.There are some steps to take like a regular nursing student here in the US.Before you enter the RN program,there are some pre-requisite subjects that is required to take because some of the subjects here are not equivalent from our subjects in the Philippines.And our old transcript should be transferred to US transcript,so it should be evaluated by an evaluation agency.

I was actually been applying to different financial aids and scholarships since I got the bad news. So sad to know why is has to be implemented that fast and our country didn't pay as much attention to the requirements now the students are now suffering, wasting time and loosing a lot of money to apply here and there and to ask for another set of credentials back in the Philippines because I already passed everything to the BON.. :(

If only I can enroll right away, but tuition here in US is really a lot. And the schools here keep telling me that I need to do the entire nursing program, so that means I need to study again for 4yrs??? which I don't want to happen because the costs and all is really burden, that's why I trying hard to look at other options.

Have you heard back from any of the different financial aids or scholarships you applied to? I didn't know that if one got their degree from an international school, that one could qualify for a US educational loan or scholarship? But if you can go for it, as in my case, I would need a strong peson with good credit? Good luck!

Well for now my application for the Federal financial aid is being processed, but I am not sure yet if I will be able to get it. But I am really hoping though because I badly need it..
