Block 2 of 08 will be the last LPN class offered. I am currently in that block. We signed a paper at the beginning of class to be able to take the NCLEX PN, but were notified that we will be the last class. I am pretty sure that it is all the community colleges.
WHY??
That is completely unfair. So all the other classes are now going to be under qualified to take the test??
I am really, really, really, upset about this!
Or maybe I mis-understood. Is getting your LPN anywhere completely not an option anymore, or just for MCC students?
I am currently going in to block 2 at PC and know for a fact that at least this semester block they are offering a bridge class to get an LPN...it will be NUR 191....it depends on your school to decide if the class will be offered but PC is offering it during the summer after my block 2 finishes up..it would be worth you while to ask your nursing department head if your school is going to be offering it because they told me at first (in May, June, Aug, and Oct) what they told you...you never know with these programs....they kinda play by ear a lot of the decisions they make so if the interest is there you never know...

pg 113 I believe has the addition of NUR191 into the curriculum for the specified colleges beginning spring 09....no end is given so of course you never know but it is definitely still an option as of now depending on if your school is one of those listed...its looks like they are keeping the current configuration of NUR 151-block 1 to NUR 171-block 2 as well.....which goes like so....151 is basic info on overall nursing and basic assessment information including all of the lovely stuff you do as a CNA as well as a few nursing items such as learning to pass meds, insert foleys, change bandages, and other random stuff..start looking at NCLEX review questions and the rationales so you can get ahead....self-teaching is kinda a must in this block to do well.....171 is supposed to be strictly med-surg with greater emphasis on the systems of the body and their afflictions...good luck!!!

Thank you so much this is excellent information and definately encouraging to know. Its so funny I called the MCCDNP main office number and they basically told me too bad so sad about the possibility of becoming an LPN while in Nursing School. I'm glad we have this forum, so we can all help each other out:yeah:. Thanks Again!
Don't be too disappointed with the LPN portion being changed.
I worked as an LPN after Block II in nursing school. There weren't many job options besides nursing homes (I was able to get a job in a hospital), and - once you take the LPN - you can't work as a tech, CNA, monitor tech, PCT, etc.
You might be better off taking out some school loans.
PM if you have questions.

I just got accepted into the spring semester Nursing program after three semesters on the wait list. I used the time that I was waiting to build up enough money for cushion to allow me to get me through the first two blocks of the program. I planned after Block II to apply for licensure as an LPN and work registry around my classes through Blocks 3+4 (which is what all my friends did to financially support themselves through the last half of the program). Much to my dismay, I just learned that nursing students are no longer allowed to apply for an LPN after Block II
Which was never announced on the waiting list website. If I'd have known I would have went a totally different route and went to Gateway's LPN program first. I work an 8-5 Mon-Fri job and unfortunately I live on my own and cannot afford to pay all my living expenses on $12p/hr which is what the entry level hospital positions are offering. Are there any current nursing students out there that have heard anything about how to get an LPN while in nursing school?
