Compact State

Hi

I'm currently doing a research project on Politics in Nursing. I wanted to know why being a compact state is considered an issue. Also does anyone have any idea why New York is not a compact state.

Thank You

I'm sorry that you assume I have not done any research. New York is currently pending to become a compact state according to Bills . It still does not answer why they haven't become a compact state. I do believe it is all about the dollar at the end of the day but that is still my opinion and everyone else's. Why do seasoned nurses always want to eat their young? Teach Empower Advocate

A ton of posters come and post and want the answers....If you posted this before; you would have gotten a better response.

Clear communication presents better questions solutions and education, as well as rationales.

WHEN in doubt, you can never go wrong with CLARITY.

Now, if this is a research paper, have you found any papers or information about compact states?

This all that comes to mind but I guess I thought bigger than this. I find tons of articles but i guess i'm not satisfied with the information because there is no straight forward answer.

Thank You

You're absolutely right and I will keep that in mind.

If you have done ANY research then you should be able to tell us the reason cited by most of the states as to why they have refrained from joining the Compact... Beyond that, if you are interested in New York's rationales, I found New York's rationale in all of 15 seconds of looking on Google.

This isn't a "eating our young" thing, this is a do your own homework thing. You obviously did not do your research or if you did it was pretty poor because I am not from New York and found detailed answers from the horses mouth.

Not impressed.

Have you looked at ANA or nursing journals?

Why do student nurses assume nurses "eat their young" because seasoned nurses don't give them a straight forward answer and actually make the student nurses think! I have yet to find a seasoned nurse that didn't make me think. I am so grateful for them empowering me to use my critical thinking skills and resources. A pt on a vent who is sedated and intubated isn't going to sit up and give you a straight answer as to why something is the way it is. You have to think, use your assessment skills, your training, your communication skills to the team professors train you for this with every assignment your given. Like another poster stated had you commented that you did in fact do some research prior to posting others would have commented differently, but the "nurse eat their young" comment because no one gave you the answer was not needed.

... but i guess i'm not satisfied with the information because there is no straight forward answer.

Thank You

FYI, you're going to encounter this a lot in nursing -- might as well get used to it. :)

Also, plenty of us here teach for a living and are happy to "teach" on this site, but many of us feel that handing someone the answer to a question is not "teaching," it's the opposite (whatever the opposite of teaching would be ... :)).

Avoiding these sorts of hurt feelings is precisely why we ask students to tell us what they know and how they found it out before they ask us for the answer, not during backpedaling or justifying later. Otherwise, they get old bats saying, "We don't do your homework, don't think you can wander on in here and ask us, blah blah blah..." and we get back ... the ancient (and largely discredited) NETY sound bite.

As to your question, that being a matter of opinion, I can state categorically that no one will want to chew on you if you are tough. :)

:flwrhrts:

People in general chew on others too much. It is nothing short of tragic that healthcare is like this. I have taught too, and the scathing or harsh approach is generally nonproductive.

I submit that the politics and money that go along with it are the reason that other states aren't united in this. Interestingly enough, if you work for the Veteran's Administration, your license will confer to any relocation in which they (VA) place you.

So beyond the idiotic politics/money, I submit that people really can't give you a logical answer, b/c it's political, and mostly, politics are NOT logical.

You can get tough in healthcare, externally, but once you become hard and unbendable, the value of your true efficacy begins to drop. Sensitivity and empathy are Key in healthcare. The gunner mentality is a toxicity everyone can live without.

Could be that or could be that most states publish their rationales which really do make sense. Takes all of about 3.25 minutes to find. Which for homework, is a pretty cherry assignment. Keep in mind assignments like this are not about the answer but are about teaching HOW TO FIND the answer.

Not all states require fingerprinting or background checks.

Not all states have the same educational requirements.

The only disciplinary action that a state can do to an out-of-state licensee is bar them from practice in their current state.

Practicing in a federal facility is very different than practicing in a state regulated facility. Apples and oranges here with some very important legal reasons.

Politics and money...always the source lol.
