Hi to everyone. I'm 25 yrs old and a would-be 2nd courser nursing student.
Like other second coursers, it took me a while of careful consideration in looking for a good nursing school to invest my time and money. Finally I've settled for Dr. Carlos Lanting College and hopefully I'll start by this summer.
I've heard mostly good comments about Lanting but the info I found on this link http://www.ofwguide.com/article_item.php?articleid=161 is a bit disturbing. It says Lanting is one of the schools given closure notice due to poor performance and failure to comply with the requirements set by the CHED. Though it's a bit dated and Lanting is still in operation (as far as I know), I'd still like anybody to comment on this.
I'm excited to start this nursing career path and I'm just hoping there will be no hitches on the way. Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially from previous students of Lanting. Thanks!!
thanks for understanding... :) like what you said, it really depends on the student... i can say that myself since the school am enrolled right now isn't really that great as well.. i just decided not to transfer anymore since it would affect my transcript.. this is my 3rd school since i started schooling way way before.. hehehe... let's just strive to be better students that what's expected of us.. correct? hehehe!!
hi! im also a proud graduate of lanting last march 06 and a passer of june 06 nurse licensure exam. The time i passed the board, i was only 20. My point is, i know a lot of second coursers, some are even dentists, from other reputable universities who didnt make it.. Likewise, my former classmate in highschool, who i really look up to, also graduated from a very popular university in espana manila, yet she unfortunately failed. So I guess, saying that, a grade of 1.0 in lanting is equivalent to 3.0 in other schools, is very much unfair. Moreover, some of the so called "cum laude" of her school also didnt make it. Lanting may not be as "sosy" as it seems but i believe with all my heart, that it is indeed, a very much competent institution of learning for people who desire to be nurses some day.
I was an aeronautical engr and was working with PAL for 25 years. I decided to go into nursing so I can go to the USA. I started at Lanting-Tandang Sora. The facility was not so great. it was more like FEATI University when I took my engineering classes then.
I did not finish my nursing course at Lanting, though. But it gave me the necessary feel to be back in school again.
I am now here in the USA through the student F-1 visa and have earned nursing degree, passed the NCLEX, and now on OPT earning $26.50/hr.
Hello, medtek. I've been reading some threads here, esp this particular thread, so that i can get ideas which will help me decide as to what nursing school is best for me. I'm also a 2nd courser.. May I ask what you've heard about Lanting? As to why you chose this school?

You mentioned here your reasons for choosing Lanting. I'm curious. What "good program for 2nd coursers" do they have? Are you referring to the schedule, accreditation of subjects... Please enlighten me.
Also, how much is their tuition, if you don't mind my asking? I'm asking all these questions because i need to know if it's worth all the distance i'd be travelling from my place.. Proximity from my place to the school used to be my priority, but after learning that most of the schools nearby are not recognized by CHED yet, and those who are, belong to the list of worst nursing schools, i realize i have to do more research...
I was even dissapointed by the low passing average of Lanting but then I see that they maybe just a little bit lax in accepting students(who may not be serious in studying). But the board topnothcers from that school also prove that if only those students take their studies seriously, they can pass it with flying colors.
I just chose Lating bec it suits what I'm looking for-good program for 2nd courser, cheap tuition and quality education. Wish the best for all of you nurses and nurse-t0-be. Peace!

I'm an incoming 2nd courser nursing student, and i'm deciding which school i'm attending.
Just would like to ask you if it's true that the sections in Lanting are divided among those who are 1st and 2nd coursers, and the latter also being divided among those who are allied and non-allied graduates?
I presume that you are in the allied section (with the doctors, etc). It was mentioned in this thread that the tuition for the allied section is around P25k, and for the non-allied and regular students, it's around P19k.. May i ask the reason for the difference? This worries me, coz it might affect the "good quality of education" we're after, coz this difference in tuition may mean that the allied section have better, more experienced teachers than do the other section. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Would appreciate very much if you can enlighten me on this. Thank you.

Yes, the sections for 1st and 2nd coursers are divided.And yes,allied and non-allied sections are divided too.And the doctors have their own section.I was in the allied section because I am a Physical Therapist.I think the only difference is that the 1st coursers do not occupy the air conditioned rooms, the allied and doctors use those rooms.Maybe that's why, the 1st coursers pay less. I am sorry but I cannot fully explain the reason for the difference in tuition fee because I did not pay for anything ( I am humbly stating this fact ). But not paying a single cent when I was a student there meant that I had to work doubly hard in studying so as not to embarrass my close relative who owns the school. I had to get good grades and study very hard and I pressured myself to give it my all.
But I know that we have the same teachers and there is no discrimination when it comes to the quality of education that the school provides.And one other good thing, the school looks better now.They have made a lot of repairs and the last time I went there ( feb 2007 ) it's beginning to look like a hotel. I like the new look of the school.

Hi Amiga, I saw this list of Nursing Schools' average board passing grade from 2000-2004 and Lanting had 50% average only. But last year I think they have like 65% average,not so sure, but Lanting have been producing students who made it as board topnotchers.
I inquired at Lanting and the tuition fee for this summer+first sem is 28K. The succeding semester will be about 32K up since you'll be starting duties. They have a special class for second coursers (twice a week only this summer) and also night classes for those who are working. I'm referring both to the schedule and accreditation of subjects (all your previous subjects that are credited and you don't need to take unnecessary subjects).
Amiga, it's really your decision if you think that the sacrifice you make in taking up Nursing is worth it. I came all the way from the Visayas just to study in Manila because most schools in my city, although very good schools, take you 3 1/2 to 4 years of study.

I took up industrial engineering and am seriously considering of taking a nursing course. I am also planning to become a full time student so that i can finish the course in the shortest possible time.

First of all it depends on your 1st course. If your 1st course is non-health related then none of your subjects or just a handful will be credited.
You will have to give your transcript from your 1st course and then let the registrar evaluate w/c subjects can be credited and then they can estimate how long it will take.
