Coming up on 1st year and hating current job

Nurses New Nurse

Hi,

I can appreciate that I'm fortunate to have a part time job (let alone just a job now) but I am hating everyday of my weekend supervisor job. I supervis LPN's and CNA's who seem to believe if they tell me some very important patient information a 2:55 pm that they've done something. NO I'm not completing your A&I, nursing note for YOUR patient with skin tear/fall and bruise of unknow origin. I do my assessment and note. I don't protect you.

I'm tired of taking the risk and not getting any benefit. They have health/dental/uniform allowance and pension.

I'm the f---king RN, salaried and I don't get anything but 16 hours of irritation. Of course I need a year of nursing experience but what happens after a year. Two years.

I don't feel I'm doing anything nursing related. I'm babysitting adults who barely do what's in their job description as its required by the state. They refuse 1:1, I write them up and I get harrassed by staff and an "inservice" by administration.

It's all I can do to protect my nursing license. I think I've made a mistake. I like nursing but this economy and the job pool that is currently out there, it's a mistake. Thank god I don't have student loans. I think I'll do this for a few months more and if I can't find a different job, I will do something else.

Just need to vent

I can relate. I have a hospital floor nursing job,but its just as bad. I absolutely HATE my job,but I'm stuck here. Our Nurse Manager is horrible, doesn't care a thing about his nurses or how unsafe our assignments are! We are losing experience nurses by the minute and he has nothing to say about it.

What's even worse it that us newer nurses who are looking for other jobs, believe he is blackballing us to other managers so that we can't get other positions! But with this job market I have no other option.

I guess we can only be happy we get a paycheck and pray for better days.

Well, at least if you are job hunting you will have a possible new job to look forward to. If you don't look for a new job, you will either make peace with this job or get more miserable. So spend energy looking for a new job. And good luck. Maybe you will find something soon and it will be good.

AMEN!!! This is exactly what is happening where I work. I hate my job too. I work in a very large county jail. I work with almost all LVN's and CMA's too but I dont usually have to do much for them. They are fairly independent. AAAAAND working with inmates speaks for itself. But the DON is just horrible! I have been working at the jail since last May and am soooo sick of it. Management is just terrible. There have been over 50 nurses that have quit in the last 6 months. Yeah crazy I know. I got married about 7 months ago and they wouldnt let me have 2 nights off for a honeymoon and we were fully staffed in the area I was in at the time. Yeah still pretty bitter over that one. THANKFULLY I just found another job on a med surg floor in a small hospital about an hour away. I have been applying all over my area for over 6 months and this is the first offer I've had. I know what it feels like to be "stuck" in a horrible job but just keep trying. Jobs are out there....it just takes a while to get one.

=( stick it o ut

I am also close to have been working for 1 year on my floor (busy telemetry unit) and really want to quit. I absolutely HATE it. There is constant disrespect from fellow nurses, I never understood what "nurses eating their young" meant until I started working there! And the nursing manager is horrible, she is all talk but never any follow-up/action. I feel like I have no other options right now. I'm so frustrated, as well as the other new grads. I try and take it one day at a time but its difficult when you HATE everyday of work.

sdnewgrad- hang in there,my nurse manager is just like yours! They put no effort into keeping thier nurses happy!

Licensed in June of this year. Greatly dislike being a nurse. I work PT LTC and PRN cardiac floor. It's not all terrible, but OOOPS, goofed on a career choice. I enjoyed being a forklift driver more than this crap.

This is saddening... lol

Totally understand the feeling. It is frustrating started interviewing again and get we hired someone with more experience. 9 months of working my butt off and disliking my job.

I'm actually looking at going back to school to become ANYTHING else. Really hate my job and career choice and every single day I have to go to work I can't help but think. What the h e double hockey sticks was I thinking?
