Hi everyone!
First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone who has been accepted into the next starting cohort for this program!
I am starting this super early because I have already begun to freak out lol.
Is anyone applying for the MDE MDE/DNP or MDE/PHD program for 2017?
This is my dream program !!
I am prepping for the GRE at this point which I am taking in August. It has been a long arduous road for me to say the least and I am ready to send my app off with a prayer. Any advice from current/previous students of this program or applicants welcome! And to my fellow applicants what other programs are you applying to? And most importantly good luck to everyone. The application opens August of 2016

This video essay makes me nervous lol. I know what I want to talk about for the first question but I'm totally lost for the second. I mentioned a few things about myself in the end of the first essay but I want to highlight those. I'm not sure if it is considered "something that isn't apparent" though! :/
Maybe ask someone who knows you well for some ideas. Maybe there's something about your personality or situation that isn't obvious to you because it's so intrinsic, but that will make you a successful student/a great future employee. Or just talk about how much you love new york.
in any case, just remember to smile and create coherent sentences. that's the critical bit.
Good luck! I'm working relentlessly on mine!
Do you mind sharing your stats? GRE, GPA, work history, etc.?
Also, what do you think Columbia thinks about complete career changers? I'm coming from the Communications/Media/Journalism industry so have little relevant work experience in nursing, but this is something I have been passionate about and wanting to pursue for a long time now.

I shared this way upthread:
The 2015 fall/winter Columbia SON magazine had a big feature on people who came to the program after careers in completely different fields. So I think it's safe to say they are fine with career changers. That is probably why they weight the personal statement so heavily.
I have an English degree and an MBA and worked as a proofreader before I applied to Columbia 2 years ago, so nursing is a complete career change for me as well. Columbia accepted me then (and I'm hoping they will again), so it's safe to say your career background will not hurt you at all. This degree is specially designed for students from non-nursing backgrounds. They look for people from all walks of life and all job fields. Don't let your lack of healthcare experience stress you out.
So, question to everyone else: were your video essays just a recording and not an actual video? Also, when I checked my recording at the end it cut off after 4 seconds and I have no idea why, so I guess I'll just do it again.. maybe it glitched? Dunno, but this is slightly stressful Q__Q
