So where are the potential 2008 Columbia ETPers at? I think a handful of regulars around here have Columbia on their list of apps, so heres a thread to get us through until notifications in Spring 2008. If you'd like, reply here and let us know which specialty you are trying for! I just submitted my app online for Acute Care...Good luck everyone! ;)

I dunno about you guys, but it's been only a few hours since I activated the e-mail account and I've already received 3 e-mails from unknown and unrelated parties (although all from columbia.edu). I wonder if the account has a scam filter .. at this rate it would soon lower my tolerance level. Or maybe I should get used to it?! Some e-mails could be interesting and informative, what can I say..

Specializes in L&D.

You will receive lots of unrelated e-mails - mostly for lectures and things like that. Also professors like to send out random e-mails without telling you who they are and what the e-mails are related to. And, since the xx### format is so lovely, it's hard to decipher sometimes. You'll figure it out though.

I have some ETP books for sale and some white size 37 available if you're interested, PM me.

Yeh, I've received a few emails, but all have been university affiliated. I assume everyone with a CU email account receives these emails to ensure that everyone is informed about events, etc. Very exciting, though! I'm glad they have our summer schedule posted. Seems like Mon, Tues and either Weds/Thurs will be pretty busy, with shorter days on either W/T and Friday. If only they could have managed to give us access to this site a month ago...a lot of our frustrations and stresses probably would have been avoided!!

Also, I'm just curious: Who is going to buy a PDA right away? I'm unsure...

Where did you find your uni number? I think I'm missing something here...too much wine and too little sleep makes for poor internet skills. ;-)

So excited to finally get our e-mails addresses! Yay! :D

Smit, I think I'm going to get the PDA this year. I spoke to three students at visiting day who all have the PDA and highly recommend it. According to them, having the PDA on hand during clinical is very helpful for looking up drugs, dosages, etc. According to one girl, she doesn't know how she could live without it. I'm only a little concerned with the price for the service plans that come with it, but hopefully it will be worth it!

l_elisha, when you click on the link to set up an e-mail account, you can search for your uni in the columbia directory. Before you can activate the account, you have to agree to a couple policies, then you can do the search.

Are you guys up for an experiment? I sent an e-mail from CubMail to my personal gmail and it took 30 minutes to arrive. Can you beat me?

Just sent a test email to my gmail and it was a matter of seconds. Maybe something with the mail server earlier. I'm guessing we find out what group (1-8) we're in when we register?

Hey everyone!

I don't know if you guys already knew about this but there's a facebook group called:

Columbia ETP Students (Summer of '08 Start)

that about 35 people have already joined, you may want to check it out :)

Has anyone started reading the two required readings we are supposed to have read by the start of classes? I just ordered them from Amazon and was able to get both, brand new, for $45 including shipping. It says on the accepted etp page that we will be discussing/tested on the material from these books. I guess I'd better start reading!!! Also, what is everyone thinking about textbooks? Are you going to wait and get them at orientation (I think we get 15% off the required texts if we do so), or try and get them used elsewhere?

I was out of town until yesterday and just got the emails and set up my uni account today. I'm thinking of going the Amazon route to get the Med Math and Fadiman books.

Is the list of required texts for the upcoming semester posted anywhere yet? I'm leaning toward getting them after the first day of classes just to see which texts are actually suggested by the professors. I heard that they mostly teach from PowerPoint Slides and that some of the books may not be necessary. Any current ETPers out there have any advice on this?

Thanks!

Hey new ETPers,

If anyone is in the NYC area prior to your start date, I would like to sell my text books. I am just finishing up the ETP portion and I will be moving out of state, so I do not want to take them with me. Please feel free to email me at scg2118....the rest is the columbia email which you all should know, so feel free to get in touch and we can negotiate a price and you can come pick them up.

Hey everyone! I was on the waitlist and just got my acceptance letter today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to have to scramble to get all my stuff together before school starts, but I am soo excited! I'm relocating from California, so this is a big move for me. I have so many questions! If someone would be awesome enough to get in touch with me so I can get in on all of this that would be so nice! I'm going to go over and join the facebook group now.

Also, I didn't get any housing info so I'm guessing I'm all on my own there. Anyone looking for a roomate? :)
