Columbia School of Nursing MDE 2018

Published

Hi AN fellows!

I know it is super early to start such a thread but I was hopping to connect with potential applicants/classmates for Columbia SON MDE 2018 program!

If you are applying to Columbia SON for summer 2018, let's share our experiences, ideas, thoughts and such!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

Does anyone know if merit scholarships offered for MDE portion are also continued to those in the MDE/DNP? I couldn't find any info on it in the financial aid award letter, but I really wouldn't see why it wouldn't apply to the DNP years also and if it applied annually. Any clarification would help! Thanks!!

From talking to current students, there's a merit scholarship that is given out in the 2nd and 3rd year. It's the MDE/DNP seamless scholarship. Scholarships and Grants | School of Nursing

Yes! I've read about that one. I was wondering if anyone knew about the merit scholarships that were offered during MDE year (not the MDE need-based scholarship). But I think I'll just ask during the financial aid Q & A. An additional couple thousand every year would definitely be a huge load off! Thank you!!

I was told that the maximum aid you can get is $27,000, including merit-scholarships, and whatever aid you received is final.

I thought that the MDE/DNP seamless transition scholarship is only awarded once.

I received $34,000 and haven't met anyone who received anything more than that. I was told from their financial aid office that they will select a few potential candidates to receive the minority scholarship which I believe is another $10,000 dollars.

Hey!

This is good to know! Did they reach out to you to tell you this or did you contact them?

I just reached out and they said

"The scholarship committee is still reviewing candidates whom qualify for the Rudin Opportunities Program. The review should be completed by deposit day March 15th. Selected students will be notified through email."

Ahh okay! Awesome! Thank you!

Just for my reference, and for the reference for everyone in the MDE/DNP program, did anyone calculate how much the entire program would be for the entire MDE/DNP program? I feel like I keep fudging up the numbers, and they end up wonky. Ahaha.

I believe it's 27k for 4 semesters for MDE plus 54k per year for DNP.

108k + 168k = 270k

I think this is not quite right. When I added it up, it came out to closer to $177k total, but I could be wrong. The two semesters are for a paid residency, meaning you wont be paying tuition during that time, from what I can tell.

Does anyone else have any further insight? It is a little frustrating that the financial aid email only included MDE costs. Nowhere on the website can I find an exact cost, only number of units (40 total for DNP) and the per unit cost. That's how I came to my estimate.
