Columbia MDE 2022

Published

I know the application hasn't opened yet, but wondering if there was anyone else thinking of applying to Columbia MDE/DNP programs for June 2022 entry?

Is anyone else waiting on other schools as well? If so, where did you all apply! ☺️

Every time I see a new email with the title "Columbia MDE 2022" in my inbox, my heart skips a beat, but quickly realize it's a notification from this thread ?

Did it skip again? ?

I haven't submitted any other applications yet, mine are all due after the new year for fall 2022 start. I'm applying to NYU, hunter, SUNY downstate, and mount sinai. Maybe some other lesser schools in the area if my top choices don't work out.

LOL it probably would have if I wasn't already on this page

I applied to Yale, Columbia, and University of San Fran (not the state school, the small Jesuit university). My GPA is up there, 3.7 for BS and 3.8 for pre-reqs. I have 10 years of clinical experience, but as a licensed massage therapist working for a physical therapy office. IDK if they will value that equally to other types of experience. My goal is to merge my "holistic health" knowledge with nursing, and eventually psych, as a Psych NP.

Oh so you are only looking to stay in NYC? I am all the way over in Los Angeles but I love NYC so I definitely would not mind making the big move over. I was considering applying to SUNY Downstate but I really do not feel like taking the TEAS for literally one school haha.

I really made sure to have as many options as possible because admission decisions can tend to be all over the place and some programs have a reputation of not always providing the best financial aid assistance.

I applied to Columbia, UCLA, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Northeastern, Emory, and I plan on submitting to SFSU and Pace as well. I will consider applying to NYU if I face rejections since the application deadline is like April 1st or something.

I am sure your clinical experience and unique approach to nursing will definitely catch their eye, on top of your solid academic performance. Best of luck to you! ?

What do you mean regarding the “best financial assistance ” ?  Scholarship? You mean. I’m assuming most people take out student loans.

Yeah, didn't feel worth it to uproot my life - got a great rent stabilized apartment and I love my neighborhood. Plus, I'm planning to stay in NYC permanently and I feel like employers here won't look down on smaller local schools (as opposed to if I were planning to move to another city).

Well, a scholarship is financial assistance, so yeah that haha. However, some programs provide more financial assistance in terms of loans through the school whereas others don't provide as much and then expect you to pull out private loans which can be a hassle depending on the amount + APR.

Yeah my only issue with NYU is it’s just the accelerated 15 Month bachelors… I feel like the Columbia program make you “feel” like you’re progressing because you’re getting the RN degree with the masters… which I know… doesn’t make the pay or degree any better. At the end of the day you’re still and “RN”.  My goal as most people going to these programs is to do the NP or DNP of course.
