Columbia MDE 2022

Published

I know the application hasn't opened yet, but wondering if there was anyone else thinking of applying to Columbia MDE/DNP programs for June 2022 entry?

What are people doing to have gotten in? Have most of the prerequisites done before applying?

Hi! I saw your other post too.. two masters and work in psychotherapy, thats all so amazing! And seems like you're more than qualified! I do know that they look at the applicant holistically and maybe you can contact admissions inquiring on what maybe they were looking for and what your application didn't portray. Bc I too only have a BA in psych hahah...

To answer your question, I just graduated college in May 2021 with a BA in Pre-med Psychology. My GPA was around a 3.4 and my prerequisite GPA was probably around a 3.8. I currently work as a case manager at a psychiatric urgent facility serving the underserved/housing insecure population and I sit in on my clients primary care and psychiatric appointments and collaborate with their providers to get them back on their feet and re-assimilate back into society. In high school and during my summers in college I worked front desk at a behavioral clinic. I was in 2 research labs and volunteered at food pantries and rescue missions and had an internship in an ICU department in a hospital.

In my application I really pushed/emphasized on my experiences and how that drives my want to be an advocate and a resource for disenfranchised communities. And how my end goal to open my own behavioral clinic, like the one I started at, incorporating a collaborative integrative model of care for long term outcomes as oppose to bandaid fixes we see today.

I hope even some of my rant helped you a bit LOL

Hi all–Congratulations to everyone who got in! I've been following along and want to thank you all for sharing. I applied to the MDE program last year, didn't get in and reapplied this year, and finally got in! For those who didn't get in, don't give up–you can do anything you set your mind to!

I'm so thrilled (!), but also worried about how I'm going to afford it.

Could anyone who received info about a scholarship in their acceptance letter, share exactly what it said? I applied separately for the university scholarship when I applied to the MDE program, but haven't heard anything about the scholarship and wonder if that will come with the financial package in 10-15 days, or if I got it I would have been notified in the letter....

Apparently my scholarship amount & title is public on the Columbia website, so I'll share here:

Congratulations! On behalf of Columbia University School of Nursing, I am pleased to offer you admission to the Masters Direct Entry (MDE)/Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with a specialty of Family Nurse Practitioner. Your education, experiences, and hard work to date have brought you to the next step in accomplishing your goal of becoming a nurse. At no other time in recent history has it been more vital to be a Columbia Nurse.

In support of your doctoral education, you have been awarded the MDE/DNP Seamless Scholarship in the amount of $40,000.  This scholarship will be allocated over the first two years of your doctoral program.  Please note, continuation into a doctoral program is contingent on the successful completion of the Masters Direct Entry (MDE) program and licensure as a NYS Registered Nurse.  Progression into the doctoral degree programs at Columbia University School of Nursing (CUSON) requires that students maintain CUSON's academic and professional integrity standards.  Any breach in these standards will forfeit a student's eligibility to progress into a doctoral degree program.

I already emailed them about the total cost. I will ask when they reply about any other potential opportunities for merit aid.

Hi! Congrats on acceptance. I am in the same boat. I do want to figure out the finances of it all. I was having a difficult time submitting my FASFA. I contacted the Financial Aid Office, and they were not sure how to fix the issue I was experiencing. Have you already applied for financial aid via FASFA? Maybe you could help me out! I would SO appreciate it. They noted on my profile that I was experiencing some technical issues. However, perhaps we can also look into other scholarships and financial aid. Do you have any further information on that? Not only the tuition but the cost of living in NYC is pretty expensive... Currently living here, and it is costly!

I would recommend getting someone on the phone tomorrow from the federal student aid information center and just talking through the issues with them, I’ve found them to be very helpful. I’m depending on financial aid too, so I feel you. I’m also curious about applying for external scholarships, I’ve googled it a bit but it was pretty overwhelming. I bet the financial aid office can recommend scholarships to apply to.

Also can we give some space to address the fact that the decision was released on 2/2/22 a little after 2 pm? The tarot card?!?!

EDIT: according to my email it was *exactly at 2 pm*

The tarot card is wild. It was exactly at 2pm, too. @BrennanHealingScience

I was accepted to MDE/DNP PMHNP! Applied last year and didn’t make the cut. Congrats to everyone who got in. And to those who didn’t, please don’t give up. My story is TLDR; status but trust me when I say you can do it if I did.

Waitlisted.  Congrats for all the accepted applicants! When is your decision/deposit due?

I think deposit is due March 7? I already put mine down. I was waitlisted at Yale and emailed them to take me off the list.

I just created a facebook group for accepted MDE students. I am so excited to meet you all! ? (please let me know if the link works LOL)

I just requested to join the group. I have the squirrel as my profile pic haha That is a squirrel we rescued at the animal sanctuary, her name is Janet!

Hi everyone! Congratulations to all that were accepted. I was accepted / applied to the MDE program. I applied with no expectations of getting in as a reach and am shocked to have Columbia as an option. To those of you on the waitlist do not give up! I am unsure if I will be attending due to being from across the country and other factors. With that being said I am paying the deposit, but once I hear back from my last school which is close to home I might change my mind. For those of you from far away, are you nervous to move such a great distance and start such a demanding program? Might sound silly but I am very close to my family and leaving them / not have my greatest support system during such a time terrifies me!

Congrats everyone! Can anyone please direct me to info regarding the process of applying to the DNP as an MDE student?
