I know the application hasn't opened yet, but wondering if there was anyone else thinking of applying to Columbia MDE/DNP programs for June 2022 entry?
Guys! I have a theory would they accept more students because there is currently a nursing shortage , caused by nurses leaving bedside? Wouldn't accepting more students help fill the demand for bedside nurses ? So maybe that's why they are taking longer to come out with the decisions and only doing one round . ?

My guess is that the meetings for the admissions “team” are already scheduled, and won’t be concluded until the very end of Jan. Then they have to double check the lists before finally sending out notifications in early Feb. I’m sure they did expand the team to accommodate the influx of applicants.

does anyone know how many applications they received this cycle? I saw someone wrote in last year's thread there was over 2,000 !
My understanding is that most nursing schools have received an influx of applications after COVID, but haven't had the capacity to admit more students due to limited clinical placements and not that many faculty.
The good thing about Columbia is that they're in NYC, and they seem to be able to accommodate hundreds of MDE students, at least from my understanding. Therefore it's less competitive to programs like UCSF's and Yale's, in smaller cities with a smaller capacity.
Unfortunately when it comes to addressing the nursing shortage, it seems unlikely that schools will be able or even interested in addressing the shortage without serious resources and investment from the government or other institutions (like insurance companies or hospitals) to be able to expand their abilities to teach new students.

I know there was funding in the American Rescue Plan. And I hope my measly $300k+ helps a little! I can’t wait to be an NP and use my gifts and training to help people in this confusing world.

OMG YES good idea Matchalover2000.
At this point, I had to pay tuition at another program to secure my seat (refundable until 1/30) so I'm really hoping we hear back asap.

Guys , I’ll take one for the team and ask tomorrow on the zoom! I’ll do it because I need to figure out if I should apply to more schools. I don’t really want to go anywhere else but Columbia but I guess realistically I need to have more options.
I’ll be there tomorrow as well. There’s nothing wrong with asking when decisions will be made… the date changes every year so it’s a bit frustrating for everyone. Also it will be good to hear any information I may have missed (even though I’ve read everything I can get my hands on at this point hahah) and to hear others questions. I am also curious how they are planning to have class scheduled with this Covid flare going on. I know the first few weeks of this semester are remote for now but I have a feeling it will affect the Summer program as well.

Autumn: Yes. Last cycle apparently had an excessive amount of applicants compared to most years which initiated CUSON to email their applicants in October after the application deadline… stating they would do decisions in “rounds”. The first round happened on Jan 7th and then the second round was like the last day of February and then as students declined acceptances they took people off the waitlist each week… for this coming cycle: I never received any indication from CUSON that there would be rounds But I’m hopeful we will not be waiting all the way till Feb.
aspiringNP98: yes! Ditto.
