Columbia MDE 2022

Published

I know the application hasn't opened yet, but wondering if there was anyone else thinking of applying to Columbia MDE/DNP programs for June 2022 entry?

BB13.  Do you know of anyone in your cohort that had most of their pre-reqs from 8+ years ago? That is my predicament… I did well in those courses but they are from my Bachelors years ago… I just retook stats (because that is the only one that needs to be within 5 years). I’ve been a full time dental hygienist since 2009. Major career change.   Finished my bachelors at NYU in 2014.  I’m just paranoid that Columbia will look at the pre-reqs as too old…They seem to be the only school that does not have an “expiration”for pre-reqs. I am still paranoid about I though.
I’m prepared to retake all the pre-reqs online for NYU fast track nursing this fall… if I do not get admitted to Columbia. But, like most CUSON is my top choice.

That's a lot of great clinical experience you have accumulated! For the age of the pre-req's, only Stats has a 5 year limit. So, as long as you've completed that you should be good. There's an online course called "Outlier" that offers accelerated Intro to Stats through the University of Pittsburgh. CUSON does accept credits from them, in case anyone has that requirement pending.

Thanks Brennan! I hope you're right!  Yes I took Stats online through University of Rochester last Spring prior to submitting my application. My friend who is currently in the MDE program used the same school for pre-reqs so I am sure they are acceptable.

Columbia SON follows what’s on their website in terms of prereq requirements, so you’ll be fine in that regard. The only challenge you might experience with having taken prereqs a while ago is that the expectation is that you have that foundational knowledge down when you enter. So professors don’t spend much time, if any, reviewing anatomy & physiology for example. Only you know how comfortable you feel in the prereq content and whether you need to review.

Anyone else get the email from CUSON at 4:43pm EST? haha. my heart skipped a beat...but it was for Upcoming virtual seminars... ?. Would be so nice to get an admissions decision early like last year... as all of you feel... I don't enjoy being in a state of LIMBO.

I understand it is tough to not know, as I am in the "unknown" with you. If you've ever heard the saying, don't rush a good thing, I think that certainly applies here. Send some positive energy to the school and the admissions committee, invite the best match for you to come to fruition, and it will come soon enough.

It is so hard waiting, I’ve never wanted something so badly in my entire life ?. Hopefully we don’t have to wait until the end of February to know.

For sure! I think for all of us... is not knowing the "actual" date for decisions. It changes every year yet they always say "February". For ex: 2017-FEB2, 2018-JAN30, 2019-JAN25th, 2020-JAN27th and 2021-JAN7th and Late Feb...  so historically it will be "late January" I hope or sooner.  Hang tight!

Is it possible they release decisions today? It's a Friday and January 7th ?

It seems like there was a little more info on decision timelines emailed out to applicants in previous years. We haven't received that same communication this year, right?

As hopeful as I want to be, I don't think we will be receiving decisions until mid-to-late January to be honest. ? Although I would much prefer hearing back as soon as possible LOL.

I called yesterday and they were firm about February for our cohort. But maybe there is still a chance it could be January.
