U.S.A. New York

Hey Y'all!

I'm getting ready to apply to the Columbia's ETP for 2010. I was just wondering who else was applying and what you were doing to make your application stronger! Also where else are you applying and what do your stats look like (GPA, GRE, experience, etc) ? I'm getting nervous as I start the whole application process and just thought I'd turn to the forums for some support and guidance!

I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with y'all! Hope to hear from you soon! :)

hey ooooladoula- thanks a lot, that info is really helpful. i remember reading about that a while ago and kind of forgot about it with all this anxiousness.

I panicked there for a second, since I haven't done my FAFSA yet. I read the same thing about needing to complete it by Feb 15, so I figured I'd wait until I heard about my acceptance.

Yes, KH, the suspense is killing me, too! I just want to know!!!

You should do your FASPA as soon as possible. You need it for every school you apply to. You can always add a different school to the application. When I did mine last year they claimed that I did not pay my school loan. I owed them 1 dollar and I had to pay them one hundred and twenty five dollars in interest. I just did not know. You should call the financial aid department for nursing before submitting the application because they have one question they want answered in a specific way.

You can get the whole application ready. Get your taxes done so you can give the income prior to Feb 15 that is critical. Columbia is very kind with regard to payments. I had a full scholarship when I attended the Medical and Dental School and was short money before graduation. Columbia called me in and handed me an additional check. If you are really in need they will find a way to help you and in those days I was broke and they paid for everything.

My Masters degree from Columbia was paid for because I did research for hem at the time and they paid the entire tuition for officers' of research. They are NOT like NYU at all. They really try to help their students

They may torture you NOW but they will always rescue you when you are there.

Oh my gosh its February! Has anyone heard from them yet? I usually never do this but I kept checking my email every 5 minutes at work today I am so anxious.

Thanks, dingras! I will work on it this weekend. This week is too hectic with schoolwork, work and checking email for the verdict! :)

Nice to know Columbia's so generous, though. That's great news! I've been saving like crazy, because I didn't want to take out massive student loans, so I hope that doesn't count against me.

I do not think your savngs will be enough to make the diference. They do attach your parents income.

I'm too old to have them attach my parents' income, so that's good!

I can tell you they will go for your parent if you are under forty.

they'll only look at your parents' income if you are a dependent. FAFSA has an online worksheet to determine dependent status

When I spoke with back in October, they told me they wouldn't consider my parents, since I'm 30 and have been supporting myself for years.

As long as you can prove ou have been out of the house they will say ok
