Columbia ETP Program 2012 entry

Published

Hi,

I plan on applying for the anesthesia program at Columbia and I wanted to know how the background of those that have been accepted look like to see if I'm even competitive enough apply.

Thanks!

MissTess, I got into NYU's ABSN as well...are you really withdrawing your app to Columbia? I don't know what to do..

Guy I'm freaking out- my essay has 1/2 inch margins, is that a huge problem?

You can call CUSON admissions and ask, but I would say that you should use standard margins.

Don't freak out, I'm sure your essay is fantastic. All you need to do is some good old snip and clip. I had the same issue when I was writing my personal statement.

Does anyone have any idea when early admissions will be let known? This may have been asked and answered already but it bears repeating if so :)

They say before January! Mid to late December! I'm very excited/nervous

Terp89- I messed with the margins on my essay a little, so you're not alone. You might not want to follow my example though...

I e-mailed the admissions advisor and he said it was fine. Why would I not want to follow your example? Did you apply this year?

Oh that's great that you asked! Yes, I applied this year - we're in the same boat.

I can't keep track of who on this thread is applying ED and who is applying regular decision, but just FYI the mid/late-December notification is just for ED. Regular admissions notifications go out in February.

oh right, sorry! i forgot to specify. I just want to get in somewhere so I can relax!

They mentioned in an information session that you shouldn't alter borders too much when submitting essays. They are reading hundreds of essays, all of which are supposed to be 12pt font, dbl spaced, 'standard' margins and if yours is different, it will stick out. Not only that, they are looking to see that people can follow instructions (I thought this was a bit of an odd response but I guess they have to weed people out some how)

The instructions didn't say standard margins though. Also I asked and they said they were fine.

I'm sure you'll be fine, that was just what they said on Friday when the question was asked at an info session. Don't worry about it if they said its ok
