Columbia ETP Program 2012 entry

Published

Hi,

I plan on applying for the anesthesia program at Columbia and I wanted to know how the background of those that have been accepted look like to see if I'm even competitive enough apply.

Thanks!

Congrats, melevang! Take a deep breath. Any plans for keeping your mind busy for the next couple months?

Hi Chula

Yeah the outlook is pretty good for psych as far as I know. It seems like there are lots of well-paying jobs for psych NPs. Oncology sounds really interesting to me, as well.

Hi LookingAhead,

Thanks! I'm planning on taking a vacation next week. At least I'll be able to relax for a week... But when I return I bet the wait will kill me!

i'm so nervous! i already submitted my application and so have 2 of my letter of recommendation writers, but i have one professor left who is lagginggg!! i've followed up quite a few times already! i know she has the letter done because she already submitted for another school, but i don't know why she is waiting until the last minute. i will be so upset if she doesn't get it in on time, and my whole application doesn't count because of her!

I'm in the same boat, FNPHopeful2012.

One of my recommenders has waited until the last day to submit her letter for every. single. application. With each one I've panicked and followed up with her, and she's always gotten them in on time - but still! Why give me a heart attack like that?!

The Columbia recommendation system is apparently different from other applications, if it makes you feel any better. You can't just upload a letter - apparently they ask you to answer different questions and rate the applicant on various scales.

I know!! That's why I'm so worried. I don't want her to just throw in some random stuff because it's down to the wire. And just in case there's any issues..I'm on west coast time, so there'd be no time to call NY!! Ahhh. I really hope she comes through tomorrow!!

Hey LookingAhead,

So recommenders don't submit a letter of recommendation at all? They just answer a bunch of questions?! Ugh, I'd prefer the letter because I feel like my letters would have been strong.

I'm not actually sure, melevang. I was just told by one of my recommenders that Columbia's system was different from the other applications in that they couldn't simply upload a letter. Don't stress! I'm sure the people who wrote you good letters will adapt them to be a good recommendation for Columbia.

I asked one of my recommenders about the Columbia system because I was curious. She said that she had to answer short answer questions and then was given the option of uploading a formal letter if she wanted to.

I also submitted last night. Let the wait begin! :)

Congrats knh39! What specialty are you applying to?

FNPHopeful2012 & LookingAhead -

I too am waiting on one final recommendation! Nice to know I'm not the only one having a minor panic attack over here. This has happened with my other schools as well. [sigh]. It's quite frustrating...I feel your anxiety!

OH, and thanks jqfish for answering my previous question :) you've been very helpful throughout this entire process.
