I was surprised that there didn't seem to be a thread for this year's applicants to Columbia's ETP program. So I thought I would start one. The information session was today, but I wasn't able to go. I was hoping someone else went and would be able to post any admission statistics or tips for the personal statement they gave.
Yup...I'm signed up for that one. Thanks for the info about the facebook group. I just sent a request. I completely understand the difficult decision between the prestigious name and program and a good program, with a much more affordable price tag. I'm in the same boat. Hopefully we both have the problem of getting in everywhere and having to make that tough decision.
Just signed off of the financial aid webinar. It was a pretty organized presentation of possible financial aid options; but, ultimately you really have to wait for your specific package to determine what options will be eligible for.
The presenter did say they are in the process of preparing the packages and will begin making the packages available beginning this Thursday/Friday. They hope to have most packages completed before Visiting Day (Friday, March 7th), and all packages will definitely be available before March 21st (unless there is an issue with your FAFSA).
Good afternoon everyone! I also attended today's financial aid webinar. It was really informative and the powerpoint slides included a breakdown of the estimated tuition/fees for the ETP year (~$114,457 total for tuition/fees, room/board, books/supplies, transportation, & personal expenses) and MS year 1 (~$49,000 total), as well as different loan options and resources for external grants/scholarships. Just to let those of you who aren't able to attend a webinar know, the presenter sent us an e-mail afterwards stating, "We will record our next session and make it available to the entire group of accepted applicants." She also sent us the powerpoint presentation from the webinar, so if any of you guys want me to forward it to you in advance, feel free to private message me your e-mail address! : )
To the wait-listers out there, the accepted students received a very long and detailed email today about ordering uniforms, stethoscopes, completing background checks, orientation dates, etc. Uniform/supply orders are due March 21st, same day as the deposit. I suppose it will be extended for those who are not YET accepted by that date (I say YET because you will get in!). If anyone would like the email FWD'd to them, PM me and I will send it.
I believe that the estimated $49k for the MS year 1 only includes tuition & mandatory fees, living expenses (non mandatory fees) around $25-$30k would have to be added on to that :/
Is that 49K for 1 FULL year of the MS as in 3 full semesters? Or is it just the Summer and Fall (the remaining part of the year)??
It says 49K for 31 credits... so depending on the specialty its probably different amount of credits. (I think i figured out FNP is 41 credits?? but I am not 100% sure about this). I'm not sure about timing though if one can try and complete it in a year or if it takes longer... I'm hoping they will go more into this on the admitted students day
I believe the $49,000 is for the traditional 1st year of the MSN and includes 34 credits (Summer/7, Fall/13, Spring/14). As ETP students, we will have already taken 9 of these credits during the ETP year. So, we would actually only have 25 graduate credits during the first year of the MSN program (and another 16 credits during the final Summer/Fall of the program). Consequently, the tuition for the first graduate year would be approximately $12,000 less (or around $37,000). This is the figure for tuition and fees only.

Hi @apreefer!! Congratulations on your acceptance!! I am in for FNP. Yes there is a bunch of us going to the May 7th event! I'm not sure if you are a member of our ETP 2014 group on FB? Search for "Columbia University School of Nursing ETP 2014" and ask to join! I'm still waiting to hear as well! I have an interview for CSULA coming up this week! Not as "glamorous" as Columbia, but also a great program and where I want to practice (CA). Not to mention the lower cost. So tough choice regardless! (if I get in there).
