U.S.A. Colorado

Hello all!

I am looking for some help and guidance from those who know about the RN job market in Colorado! I am a soon to be graduate from New York University! I have high expectations and aspirations for my career. I have heard that the job market is not promise out in Colorado and I would like any advice / help / information about what the job market is like for newly graduated RNs. I have grown up in NY my whole life, and I am very much looking forward to this exciting change of scenery. My boyfriend will be going to graduate school, so we are planning on moving at the end of July/beginning of august. I have done very well in my nursing program and although the job market is not great in NYC, but I would undoubtedly be able to get a job here.....and I would be nervous if this is not the case in CO.

We would be living in the Golden area, but I would be willing to travel to Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and any other area which is an hour / hour and half away. Please let me know ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING you know about RN jobs here, along with any advise you have! I want to move very badly but I need to make smart decisions and make sure there is a job market out there for me, I give myself until the end of September to land a job because my loan repayments start in November. Thank you SO SO SO much!

Is your boyfriend going to Colorado School of MINES? Also make sure to take the Coor's Brewery tour....free samples. I'm not much on beer but it was fun!

For the new grads in Denver, Check out the thread on Lousiana's regional site, New Orleans market is also saturated and same difficulty with getting hired as a new grad, much less an interview. This has been a helpful thread for me as well, even with experience, it isn't as easy a job market as I expected.

It would be interesting to know where and what kind of employment was found. I pointed out these 2 FRCC grads

did have employment though it may not be exactly what they wanted....a job is a job. just a wild guess but probably about 100+ more new grad RN's are about to hit the market just in northern CO front range??(not including denver) good luck to them.

Well in my graduating class so far, 10 contracted students were given jobs with PVH. 3 others that were working as Aides were also offered positions with PVH. 2 girls that were working in a LTC and Dialysis facility got jobs. 1 got a job with the peace corps, I was the first one to take and pass NCLEX and get my license. 2.5 weeks ahead of everyone else and I am the first one to nail a job outside of the students that already had those ins before graduating. I actually had 2 very good chances with banner but got offered the first job I interviewed for. I also went on vacation and had a call from NoCo Rehabilitation center to set up an interview. Their facility is considered acute care for new grads. I accepted the first job. So there are jobs there. But now there is definitely a lot more people that will be applying. I think everyone in my class has now taken NCLEX and all have passed. I think that head start I got was huge and it was worth taking the NCLEX within days.

Colorado is saturated with New Graduate RN's. There are currently over 3000 New Grads seeking jobs in the state. Although there are RN positions available in many hospitals, the selection process is going to be difficult. There are a few hospitals that do take new grads, but many are looking for experience. However, I just went through a hiring process and had over 73 applications for 2 Relief positions. 69 of the applications were new grads and I hired two..

The VA is building a new hospital in Aurora near Children's and UCH all on the same campus. Scheduled to open 2014, St. Anthony's as previously mentioned is moving closer to Golden. I can tell you it is a difficult organization to get into, especially at the middle management / Senior Management level. Clinical nursing may be slightly better.

There have been new grads who have not found jobs for a couple years.... Good luck, and keep applying.

I would also point out on the issue of job postings, go to the hospital websites, these are more updated than simplyhired.com or indeed.com. I have found numerous postings on these sites that have expired.

1 got a job with the peace corps

Did she get a job as a NURSE with the Peace Corps? Because I heard they don't take many nurses and I didn't know if you could really be a nurse with them or get good nursing experience in the Peace Corps, but I have always wanted to do the Peace Corps regardless!

It's a he but yes he was hired as a nurse. He is going to Cambodia for 24 months I think it is. I am not sure what kind of skills he is going to get, he is doing a lot of education and has to take classes to speak the language before he leaves. That's all I really no about it.

Thanks for the info! :) I would love to do that, but I feel like it would be best to practice my skills in a hospital first. I am encouraged by hearing about others who are active in global health, though. More power to him!!!

I moved from Arizona to Colorado recently...I feel that the nurse job market is tough anywhere. I persoanlly believe you can get a job where ever you decide to go, it might just take some time. You have to make connections and ask anyone you know if they know anyone working in a hospital setting. I used all my resources that I could. Also, let everyone you know that you are looking for a nurse position. I told people that I met I was still looking for a job and they might be like, "I should give you the number to my cousin's wife who works for something hospital". Networking is your best friend.

Colorado is beautiful and a wonderful place to live! Don't lose hope! It will happen!

Also, look for open houses at hospitals or conferences you can go to because who know who you will meet!

me too! My sister's a new teacher (2nd career) they take older people, she's talking about joining, I'd love to do work as an RN someday...right now, too many responsibilities at home base.
