I would have said that a couple years ago but I don't like the direction PVHS is going with it's nurses. I hope they work it out because it really shows in the employees.
And yet it is still ranted as one of the 100 best places to work for 4+ consistent years, and is magnet for 13 plus years. Obviously they aren't that unhappy...

Yes PVHS has been very big on focusing on their awards. It's just been this past year that a lot of changes have started being made and that a lot of the seasoned nurses are becoming very unhappy. Even as a student the past year you could just feel the difference in the vibes. Most of our class that did clinicals at BOTH facilities agreed. They couldn't believe how different the atmosphere was.
Believe me, I was a huge PVHS advocate, I have raved about them on this very site for many years, but I don't like the direction they are taking CURRENTLY in this past year.

I like to get opinions of the actual nurses and not just go off of what the hospital says.

Well, I'm not a nurse there, but I work there. I also am a student and do my clinicals at another hospital 45 miles North. I reiterate, there is a reason they get 4-6 THOUSAND applications a month.
45 Miles North: 5-6 patients per nurse during the day, 6-7 at night ALWAYS. It is not uncommon to hear a nurse drop the f-bomb. Nurses seem too busy to actually spend any time with their patients. They do an EMS rapid assessment, give meds, on to next patient. By the time you're done, its time to start over for noon meds. This is reflected in the U.S. News report of hospitals in the nation, low patient satisfaction, higher mortality: http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/rankings
Here: 4 patients at day, 5 at night. Never. Ever. More than that. Higher patient satisfaction, better mortality/morbidity rates. It is not uncommon to see someone from Sr. Management in the hall. They come to the floors to ask what is going on, what is good, what is bad, what can be improved. I'm not sure if I bumped into someone from Sr. management up north if I would know who they are... here I do. Because they're on the floor, and often.
I'd like to know what direction you think they're going. You may have a better perspective than I as I've not done nursing clinicals there as of yet.
