I applied to Collin College for Fall 2012 just want to see who else is in the waiting boat? I have 15/16 points, 4.0 pre-reqs, 3.8 overall GPA, got 5/6 on PSB, wasn't too happy about it. I am really stressing about it, one minute I think I will get in for sure, another minute I am trying to figure out my Plan B, in case I don't. And honestly I haven't come up with anything so far
I am also applying to Grayson but Collin is my number one pick, besides the fact they have excellent program the schools is 15mins away from me. Grayson, on the other hand, is about 1 hour away
Good Luck to everyone who applied.

From what I understand, they cull those out and don't look at them. They clutter up their process or something. I was told they have no bearing whatsoever. Again, this was a few years ago now. Things could be different. But if you have 15 points, your odds are reasonably good if your PSB score was maxed.
Hey Yall,
For anyone who is like me and has spent the last 3 days freaking about the averaging of retaken classes thing, I have good news! I spoke to the Collin College advisor specifically for the nursing department today and she said if a class has been retaken within the last 5 years they use the highest grade to average into your nursing GPA!!!!!(Thank you Lord ) Soooo I guess some things have changed, but just wanted everyone to know because the extra stress of not knowing is no fun!
I wrote to the director of the nursing department and she wrote me back regarding it. This is her reply verbatim:
We take the most recent grade - regardless if higher or lower. We then calculate the GPA using it. The retake is considered in the case of a tie since retaking for higher grade may have placed the individual in a higher point category.
Good luck to everyone!
I read on another forum that someone called and they told her when the letters would be sent. I would call but I am a chicken I have bugged so many people in the nursing department already and one time I sent an email from another email address just so I looked like a different person haha! Anyway with that being said any volunteers?!?!?!
LOL hb!! That totally sounds like something I would do. I was actually thinking of getting my friend who also applied for the program to call. She has a lot more guts than I do I will text her tonight and ask her to call tomorrow :-) I will let you know if she is willing and if she finds out anything.

I would get all of your information from the nursing office on how the calculations are done for figuring out placement rather than from the advisor, preferable from the head of the nursing department herself (as she is the one who makes these decisions). She is very good about answering her emails. My information came from the nursing office directly at the time I applied. I have since graduated, so it is possible things have changed, though I don't think so to be honest. I was told if it was taken within the last five years and scored poorly, they can't just disregard it, as it figures into GPA and is part of the transcript. So if retaken and a better grade is earned they average it for the figuring of points.
I would hate to discourage anyone. The points system seems very cut and dry "on paper", but honestly there is a LOT that goes into figuring who gets in. A lot comes down to who the other applicants are and how they have done and what their history is etc.
