Collin College Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hello! I know I am super early, but just trying to be proactive. I am planning on applying to the Fall 2021 ADN program at Collin. I currently have a B in A and P 1 and 2 and will be finishing Micro in the Spring semester. Does anyone know someone who has gotten in with B's in the science pre-reqs and a higher TEAS score? I'm taking the TEAS in 2 weeks and if I need to plan to take it again before submitting my final application in May. Any insight would be helpful ?

Also, for those wondering costs, I did a little loose researching to get these numbers:

In county costs of tuition for 9 credit hrs (pre-reqs complete, otherwise you'll be at 12 credit hrs) per semester: $513, or $2056 total tuition for the program.

Books: around $1500

Skills packet: $200-500

Liability Insurance: usually less than $100 annually

Drug test: $200

Immunity and vaccinations: $300

FBI fingerprints, background test: $90

Physical exams: out of pocket, around $200 per exam.

TX state licensing: $186

TX NCLEX-RN: $200

CPR certificate: $40

Uniform, backpack, etc: around $250

ATI Fees: some say $800 per semester??? unsure if true.

Online learning resources: ??

Hope this helps break down the total cost over the two years!

Ugh. It all adds up so quick. I'm working my butt off all Summer to try to make enough to cover it all out of pocket. Still haven't heard back from Collin about scholarships though.

Hello Congratulations to everyone who got in. COLLIN is such an amazing program. I got in the Spring of 2021 and so I’m going into my second semester this fall. If anyone has any questions maybe I can help out. Also for the textbook packets you will have the option to buy the physical book package, the ebook package, or both. I bought both packages but I’m not really great with physical textbooks so I ended up not opening any of the textbooks. If anyone is interested, I’ll like to sell them mine at a portion of the cost. You can always wait till after your orientation and when the books are made available just to be double sure that they still have the same textbooks. You can reach out to me at [email protected]

Also the scrub color for nursing is white shirt and navy blue pants which will be purchased at the Collin bookstore. This is mostly needed for clinicals and exam days. But for normal lectures and open lab, you can wear any color scrubs. Hope this is helpful. Congrats again y’all ?

Thank you for the info! Do you happens to know what a normal schedule looks like? Is it pretty much all day everyday or are the times pretty flexible to fit having a job in?

I don’t know if the days remain the same but for our cohort we had classes on Tuesdays, clinicals on Wednesday and skills (lab) on Thursdays. Clinicals didn’t begin till after the first 8 weeks of school, so for the first 8 weeks, we were mostly free on Wednesdays. For class days it’s usually from 8:30 AM till about 3 pm. Some days we got out earlier but some days we stayed till 3:30-4 pm. That’s both for Lecture days and lab.  Clinical days were from 6 am till about 3 pm. Some people were able to work during the weekends but overall nursing requires a lot of time.

Thank you!! When were you able to start registering for classes and was it through the regular quick course finder?

You won’t be able to register for classes till they send out codes to you all which you will use to register for classes . It may be a little after orientation

Anybody gotten any word back since accepting the program? I'm trying to get started on everything but have no idea where to start!

No sitting here waiting impatiently as well, I want to start everything as well but don't know where either! Hopefully soon we hear something.

I haven’t heard anything either so we’re all in the same boat ?

I was also wondering about the next requirements. I am so confused with the immunization requirements...as far as I understand, they want me to show my blood titers but say I don't have positive titers and I get vaccinated, can I show them the proof of vaccination instead? Also, because I was born and raised in a foreign country, I have my old immunization records in a foreign language. So if I show them my old records, would they accept them, or would they just want me to get vaccinated again? Has anybody foreign been through this? Hope it's not just me(

In the info session they said if your titers come back negative you have to get another round of whichever ones are negative, regardless of whether you have records or not ?
