Hello all!
Anyone else applying for the Fall 2012 semester @ Collin College? I have signed up to take the PSB on Dec 15th. All of you that have gotten 5 or 6 already, how did you study for it? Any particular study guides you would recommend?! Thanks! :) And good luck to everyone.
Hm, okay, well thank you for your input on that. I am trying to think positive, but I mean realistically I know that it's probably not going to happen this time around. After I got my results I talked to a couple people who got 5's on it and they actually literally went through and put all B's or C's for example for the ones they couldn't get to. And you know what, statistically they would have gotten 25% more correct that way than leaving them blank, so it actually makes sense. But what's done is done and all I can do is hope and pray a mini miracle happens, and if not, then well, the worst thing that happens is I have to wait. I guess there are bigger problems that I could have
I took the PSB on the first date available in November. I used the Barron's guide and did all the practice tests to estimate my times. Thankfully I got good scores on all sections and will get the maximum 6 points. Honestly, I found the spelling portion to be the most challenging because I had never heard or seen many of the words. I worked through about 2/3 of the reading and left the rest blank. I would not recommend bubbling answers if you don't get to them. I have heard that you are only graded on the questions you complete and that no one is expected to finish. Also, as a hint to future test-takers, there were a few questions in the reading portion in which the answers came from the heading above the passage rather than the passage itself.
I turned in my application for Fall 2012 last week. Crossing my fingers and hating the wait!
Never EVER go through and bubble as much as you can. You are only graded on the questions you actually answer. The PSB is graded based on how EVERYONE does on the exam not just you. So the percentages you get are scores of how you did compared to all the others who take the test across the US. If you make an 80% on one of the sections, it does not mean that you got 80% correct. It means you did better than 80% of others who have taken the exam.
Bubbling blindly is the kiss of DEATH. Do not do it.

I applied for Fall of 2012. I am hoping they send out the letters soon because I am already going crazy. However, from what I have seen it looks like they are pretty good about making everybody wait I bought the PSB study book at Barnes and Nobles. It was about 20 bucks and had several practice tests. I did not study a lot but I did do the practice tests and it did help me feel prepared. I got a 5 on it. Good luck to you and I hope we both get in!

Im not sure if this works for everyone, but for the purpose of saving time, I didn't read the entire passage. I would read the first sentence or two at the beginning, the middle couple sentences, and then the last sentences to get the main ideas down. I then read the questions, skimmed through the sections where I remembered seeing that info, and tried to find the answers as quickly as possible. The ones I had no time for (which there were more than a few) were just left blank. Ive read posts and heard of others filling in the blanks as you suggested though. The nursing recruiter didnt comment on that, but advised me to just answer as many questions as possible. Only the correct ones count and your percentage depends on the number you get correct vs. the number everyone else got correct. Hope this helps!
