Collin College Fall 2012 + PSB study guide?

U.S.A. Texas

Hello all!

Anyone else applying for the Fall 2012 semester @ Collin College? I have signed up to take the PSB on Dec 15th. All of you that have gotten 5 or 6 already, how did you study for it? Any particular study guides you would recommend?! Thanks! :) And good luck to everyone.

Hi! I just got accepted for Spring 2012. I got a 6 on my PSB. I used the Barron's Nursing School Entrance Exam book, you can find it on amazon.com for pretty cheap! The most important part is the reading comprehension, so getting some practice on reading passages and quickly answering the questions would be helpful! I panicked a little on that section. lol. I honestly didn't study much for the other parts. Just relax and get a good nights sleep before the test. I'm sure you'll do great! If you have any more questions about it feel free to ask :)

Hooray! Congrats on getting in!

And thanks for the suggestion. Half-Price Books had a few guides with decent science rvw and reading comp sections. I will try those and hope for the best! The general concensus here has been rest and get speedy on the reading passages so that's what I will try!

Good luck in the Spring! :)

I'll be starting the Collin program in Spring of 2012 too. I really didn't prepare too much as such for the PSB but I thankfully managed to get a 6 on it. I got a few random nursing school admission prep books from the library (Barrons, McGraw-Hill, etc.) and spent a few days (that's really all the time I had left) prior to taking the test doing a little bit of reviewing. I probably spent the most time reviewing different types of math problems in case there there were some types of problems that I hadn't seen in a long time (but that was probably not necessary) and reviewing some science basics- biology, chemistry and physics (which was helpful). I went through a few practice reading comp sample sections but didn't find that to be particularly helpful for me. For that type of testing, you can either do it well and quickly or not at the stage when you take this test. If reading comp makes you nervous, it's probably a good exercise to do to get you in the flow of reading quickly and critically and answering questions at a rapid pace. Good luck! We have our Spring orientation this Friday so we'll find out the scoop on the program at that time!

I will also be taking the PSB on December 15th! I am anxious to get it over with and get the application process going. I have heard so many things about this test like you can't study for it, and how quick the reading comprehension section goes by. At this point, I am just like, lets do it! I will be applying to start in the Fall 2012 semester too. Good luck!!

Hooray! I picked up my scores today and got a 6. :) Good luck to the rest of you!

Ok, so I got my scores today and I am really upset. I only got 3 points from the PSB. I dont know what happened. I bombed the nonverbal section which made the academic aptitude score below a 40, so no points on that one. And the reading comprehension is below a 40, so no points for that one either. I am so disappointed because I had all my eggs in this basket and this was the last thing that I had to get done. I have all A's, a bachelors degree, and hospital experience. I know my chances of getting in are VERY slim, so I am trying to be realistic and positive though. I know I will not be accepted off the bat, but maybe enough people will go to other schools so that for some miracle I am able to squeeze in.

Now I have to wait a whole year to take this thing again. I know everything happens for a reason, but this really has me deflated and discouraged. Good luck to everyone

Sorry, Broonie! :( If it's any consolation, my nonverbal score was not the best either. Im not sure what happened. Those were deceptively "easy" while taking the test, but when I saw the score I was pretty shocked! My high math score saved that entire section (and point) for me. I would say apply anyway. You don't know how many others are in the same boat and deciding not to apply. Try to stay positive! It's not over until the fat lady sings!

the same thing happened to me and i had to wait a whole year to take the test and the time is near. any suggestions for the science section?

For the science section brush up on high school level biology, basic chemistry (also high school level), basic microbiology and basic earth science.

The pre-entrance exam books that I picked up from Half-Price books (a blue Kaplan book and my mind is blank on the other) had some great study points that served me well for the science portion. There was a little bit of everything from bio to basic physics and chemistry.

A couple questions for those of you who made 5's and 6's on the PSB: When time was getting close to being done on each section, did you just leave the ones you could not get to blank or did you go through and just bubble as much as you could (even if you just went through and put all B's or C's for example)? Especially on the reading comprehension portion, I am just wondering what everyone did when the time was about to be up in each section: bubble as much as you could, or leave a bunch blank?
