College of Mount St. Vincent ABSN Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi,

I'm starting a thread because I don't think one has been made yet. I applied a couple of months ago for the Fall 2021 semester at the Queens Campus. I emailed the admissions officer to see when we would get a decision. I was told decisions for the fall would start getting issued out on April 1st!

I have a 3.54 cumulative GPA. I have a B in every prerequisites but A- in orgo and an A in English. I submitted my TEAS score as well to make my application more strong.

Good luck to everyone!

So IDK bout Manhattanville  but I actually withdrew from MSV at the end of February. I could not bring myself to pay 60k for that mess they call a program. And I am a normal regular girl, I have a lot to loose, I’m not rich and I need to become a nurse to change my way of life so I take these programs seriously. You can PM me if you have specific questions. I don’t want to discourage anyone from applying especially because I still have friends in the program that are forced to stay because they already paid.
but there were so many red flags with MSV, I went because I got in quickly and because I couldn’t find anyone that graduated their ABSN to ask about it. I only found 1 girl on here from 2019 but she didn’t give me any type of warning/advice. After I was in I met 2 people that graduated the ABSN and they told me to run but I was very optimistic, excited and grateful to be in a program. Then everyday there was a red flag I could not ignore it anymore I ended up transferring and now I’m starting at Monroe in April. I also applied to NYU and obviously I would love to go but even if I got in I can’t justify that price for a BSN.

Which location did you attend. Queens or Bronx?  Did Monroe accept you CMSV course?

I attended queens campus, but we had to do CPR/color vision at riverdale campus. No nursing courses are transferable anywhere at any school ever which is another reason I cut my loses at CMSV early. I also had good grades at CMSV so I uploaded those grades to Monroe and NYU application. They knew I wasn’t gonna have a real transcript because I didn’t complete the semester but NYU still wanted to see the grades

Thank you do much for getting back to me and I appreciate your frankness. Yes, I am aware that no nursing program course is transferable, or was wishful thinking on my part. LOL. I you do have a chance to go to NYU instead of MONROE, choose NYU. I haven't read anything good about Monroe either, but you know what, every student is different, so I am sure you will be fine.  What were some of the red flags that you saw at the mount?  I am going to the Bronx location, so I am hoping it's a little better. The price they charge is ridiculous!

I only want to go to Monroe because I know several people going there and it’s a really good direct program. Direct meaning they don’t have extra fluff courses and the professors are normal and care. At MSV they 100% do not care and are out to get you, they have admitted this. NYU I know 2 people that went there and it’s amazing of course you get what you pay for. I heard NYU “holds your hand” which for that price they better.
so for MSV the red flags are ...ALOT. Now my friends and I had good grades in the program but I knew it would be short lived and we were just getting lucky. So I’m not complaining because I had bad grades or because it was hard because nursing school esp ABSN is going to be hard everywhere.

It’s always good to be cautious when spending so much money and I do wish there was more feedback from people who have gone through this program. That being said if you look at most forums on these ABSN programs there are people saying “Don’t go!”, it’s a messy and disorganized program, the teachers don’t teach,  you have to teach yourself, etc. You can find people from Pace, Mt. Sinai, LIU, even SUNY Downstate who didn’t make it or regret entering the program. They’re also more likely to write a review than someone who graduated or is in the middle of schooling. The admissions director of CMSV said on the zoom Q&A a couple weeks ago that about 5 or 6 people in each cohort end up dropping out. Most say the first semester is the most daunting. Every student who’s been through an ABSN program says it is overwhelming at times and the hardest thing they’ve ever done. Bottom line is people (hopefully most) graduate from these programs every year and pass the NCLEX to become registered nurses. THAT’S the most important thing. It is so much money and it’s true that not all nursing programs are equal, but the goal is to graduate and get a job where the real training begins. That there aren’t many positive reviews of this school and the first time NCLEX pass rate is 80%(last year according to the admissions person) gives me pause too, but I would take anything you read online with a grain of salt. All you can do is listen to your gut.

Thank you for your response. I will consider everything when selecting a college. Best of luck to you!

Hey so I was in msv, I left and am going to a diff ABSN program now. MSV is a dangerous school. That’s the BEST WAY to sum it up. I know MANY people in other ABSN programs and MSV is purposely trying to make their students fail. When I withdrew from the program I had a 70 in patho, 89 in health, 84 in funds, 83 in pharm, 90 in concepts (a bs fluff course). So I did not have terrible grades, trust me it was hard to make the decision to leave but at the end of the day I could not bring myself to pay near 60k for lies and games. Their NCLEX rate is not 80%, it is 75% and it was VERY LOW in the past years ( I’m talking in the 40s, you can look this up). They have no dean right now, she quit a few days before I withdrew, why...no one knows. Every single ABSN program is hard, however, as a student you cannot be stressed out about professors playing games. You can ONLY afford to be stressed about the school work itself. It should say enough to you that Professor Carr, medsurg Professor, they allowed her to fail an entire cohort of 34 students. There are no study guides also so for exams you will need to randomly know everything EVERY SINGLE THING. You will have 4-5 exams a week, every week. So no you do not have time to study you just need to pray to God you can play the process of elimination game or use test banks to study. This is the 100% truth. I’m telling you guys because this is what the 3 people I could find that went to their ABSN told me: to cheat your way thru and use test banks and use clinical to really try to learn because you will not learn in class. 2 of those 3 people I know had to retake NCLEX. MSV is lying about their stats, their schedule on their website is not even accurate. So you will have almost 7 classes together for the entire semester. I say if you decide to attend and can find an amazing friend group you will be OK, that’s what I had to do. But I’ll be honest, everyone is barely scraping by now because it’s online. Once school is back in session there will be no way out, no more scamming. Also, prepare yourself: DO NOT PAY A DIME UNTIL THE END OF THE SEMESTER. That’s what I did I only paid to hold my seat I didn’t do the castle branch, uniform I only bought the top, And I didn’t buy any books you don’t need to there are free pdf of books everywhere. DO NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING UNTIL THE END. 4 other YES 4 other students that also withdrew, 2 of them paid so when they withdrew IDK why but they had to pay 3500$. I withdrew and that was it, I didn’t pay and I removed them from my FAFSA. I am telling you this because when I was researching the school I barely found anyone and the people I found told me to cheat thru, the professors are terrible, blah blah but I didn’t listen because I was so grateful and excited to start school. And I also said to myself, “every program is hard it is what it is.” Now I am starting another program 4/30 and it is night and day. No more than 3 exams a week and study guides for every exam is in my new program’s student handbook, they actually get their ATI books, at MSV we had to fight for our ATI books smh. The only good thing about MSV is one lab professor they have named Ashley is amazing and their clinical instructor David he is so encouraging and truly cares, he is the reason I stayed as long as I did.
bottom line Is it is your choice. Go if you are ready to fight, and if you can handle outside stress along with schoolwork stress. You will be alone so make friends because the administration is lost, they are nice people, but they are lost when it comes to helping nursing students. For example, in an ABSN program they should understand that some people might now know what ATI is because a lot of these students are career changers. So a lot of students haven’t even done their ATI, they are waiting until the end of the semester to do it. Because those students don’t know that ATI is factored into their grade as well, they think it’s just extra. Now the school is supposed to have an ATI person come speak to students, my boyfriends school had this done virtually. The person showed them ATI and how to use it. You think that happened at MSV ? Nope. Half the class doesn’t even know how to use ATI...that’s just one of many examples.
don’t worry about getting into MSV because everyone gets in. My friend didn’t even complete the prereqs and she started in fall 2020. So IDK if they forgot about her or if they are THAT disorganized but trust me, you will be fine. But you have to do more than study. IDK what the more is but good luck and God bless on your nursing journey!
