College of Mount St. Vincent ABSN Fall 2021

Published

Hi,

I'm starting a thread because I don't think one has been made yet. I applied a couple of months ago for the Fall 2021 semester at the Queens Campus. I emailed the admissions officer to see when we would get a decision. I was told decisions for the fall would start getting issued out on April 1st!

I have a 3.54 cumulative GPA. I have a B in every prerequisites but A- in orgo and an A in English. I submitted my TEAS score as well to make my application more strong.

Good luck to everyone!

wow! thank you so much I am super nervous I have another school in mind but mainly I want to start this year. It's all tough and confusing but thanks for your help.

Hey guys!! I'm was also accepted to CMSV and was worried about the reviews. So I went into the old forums and found a contact for someone who attended the program 2019 and graduated 2020 . I decided to email her asking some questions, since I am debating on either CMSV or Mercy college. Here is her reply to me:

Hi Josephine

How are you? First and foremost, congratulations ! I always tell people one thing about the program is, it is kind of disorganized just like any other program out there. We didn’t really got any support and I’ve heard the same complaints from other students who are attending other school. My class (NY1), we supported each other and were not split like NY2, which is why they didn’t finish altogether but NY1 did. Some of our professors were helpful, I don’t know for now since they have new profs now. Either way, you’re still going to have to teach yourself (I recommend you get simple nursing as soon as you start the program). Classes are run M-F, when I started I did Mon-Thurs but now, things have changed. We did Fall (Aug-Dec) and we went back late January for 2nd semester, then you will do Summer and Fall again and that’s it.

They do prepare you a little bit for the NCLEX cause some of my classmates took their boards as soon as they received their ATT(Authorization To Test). 20 out 23 students from my class already took the NCLEX and we passed on our first try. But, I wouldn’t worry about the NCLEX, just pass your classes because either way, you’re still going to go back and study for the NCLEX itself.

Clinicals are honestly a mess because they can send you anywhere but in the best hospitals. Why I say it’s a mess it’s because they don’t send you according to your distance or borough (You might live in Queens and they send you to the Bronx, while someone who lives in the Bronx has to go to Queens), so yeah, I hated that but the farthest they’ve sent me was New Rochelle (so fun ), that’s the only thing I hated, oh yeah and the ATIs, I have  yet to met a student who loves ATI, but they are very helpful but I think I hated them because we had little time but long ATI. Anyway, it was doable.

I had little to no social life outside of school, nursing is hard if you really want it, you have to make some sacrifices. Probably 2-4 students kept their jobs because they really had to but it wasn’t easy whatsoever.

Yes, the program is accredited, most of my friends have landed their dream positions in NYP.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me.

I hope this helps you guys! Im still having trouble deciding !!

Hey I attended and withdrew. Myself and 4 others withdrew from the program. I was sad to withdraw because I met some amazing people and I had pretty good grades in all the classes. But there were somethings that did not sit well with me. I’m attending another program soon and it’s the small things that matter that will help you decide if you can’t make it thru the program or not. I would say if you can get an amazing group of people to study with then you will do good at cmsv. BUT if you are going to tackle it alone then it will not work. You NEED to stick with your other classmates because when things go wrong you guys need to collectively approach the faculty. Best of luck to you in nursing!

Hi everyone, I ended up getting accepted a couple of weeks ago but I decided to go with another school since the tuition is cheaper.

However, I talked someone I know who is currently in the program and she told me about her experience and she's doing fine. Everyone's experience and tolerance to workload is different. Things can always change in a years time.

Very true I agree with this. However if 10 out of 27 students pass patho then there is an issue. If an entire cohort fails Med surg to the point the school has to create a new section so the entire cohort can retake the course then there is a problem. But to each is own. I was also warned to not go to the school but I was very desperate and grateful to just get in anywhere so I jumped at it. Thank God I am able to go to a diff program in the fall and I got out when I did. I  know students now that have been dismissed from msv and their only option is nyu (because they accept dismissals) and MAYBE a few other schools in NY. All in all do your research. 15k a semester aint chump change LOL and for that price you need to be able to get thru the program

Hi Everyone, I also got accepted into the program on Tuesday, June 1st. My girlfriend suggested that I joined this this forum. It is very informative. I am also having some hesitation of continuing with MSV.                                Could some of you guys please provide the names of other schools besides NYU that you are planning to attending? Thank you!

Hi guys!

Did anyone accept admission to MSV? I am waiting to hear from another school before committing to this one

You can apply now or whenever because they allow you to defer. So if you apply now and get in for fall you can always defer to Spring.

I only want to go to Monroe because I know several people going there and it’s a really good direct program. Direct meaning they don’t have extra fluff courses and the professors are normal and care. At MSV they 100% do not care and are out to get you, they have admitted this. NYU I know 2 people that went there and it’s amazing of course you get what you pay for. I heard NYU “holds your hand” which for that price they better.
so for MSV the red flags are ...ALOT. Now my friends and I had good grades in the program but I knew it would be short lived and we were just getting lucky. So I’m not complaining because I had bad grades or because it was hard because nursing school esp ABSN is going to be hard everywhere.

Hi, after you got accepted to the Monroe program, how long it takes to finish the ABSN there? For Monroe college, my concern were TEAS score and the college is for profit. I got accepted in Mercy College in Bronx and CMSV, I recently heard about Monroe College, this for profit school cheaper than Non profit School (CMSV and Mercy). Could you share with me some information about Monroe? Many thanks!
