College of Marin (COM) Fall 2023 Nursing Applicants

Published

This thread is for anyone who is applying to College of Marin’s Fall 2023 Nursing Program

Hi! I am currently in the program, and happy to answer any questions ?

Hi! I have a couple of questions! I'm currently in the process of applying. I finished all my prerequisites at a different community college and was wondering if that was the case when you applied. I know they do a point system and was wondering what the range was for students' points that were accepted into the program

Hi! I applied with my prereqs from a variety of different community colleges- you just want to be sure that you submit your “equivalency verification” sheet to COM so that they can make sure everything is acceptable. I’d reccomend making an appointment with a counselor or reaching out to their Enrollment Services so they can look at that for you.

each year is different and the point range really depends on the cohort you are applying with. For myself, the first batch of acceptances were sent to students in the 90 pt range. BUT by they end, I believe they went down to the low 70’s ( some of these students didn’t here back until like a week before classes started in august).

Thank you! I appreciate the response! I transferred my official transcript from the college I took my pre reqs and I am going to reach out to make sure I have all my classes in order to apply. I wasn’t too aware about that. How are you liking the program so far?

No worries! Ask away! I remember being frustrated by how hard it was to get info since the school doesn’t respond very fast so I’m here for it ?

I’m just finishing my first semester- so far so good! The school really is there to support you and the teachers do everything they can to make sure you succeed. Things definitely can change on a whim or be last minute, so you do have to be flexible (especially for clinical placements). But I am really enjoying it.

Hi! I applied with around 92pts, and got my acceptance letter in Mid-May (first round). However, they sent multiple rounds of acceptance letters (I think the last round was in early August! ) and I believe they worked their way down the list to the low 70's.

OH wow! Thanks for the information. Are there a lot of people in the program who already have bachelor's?

Yep! Myself included. We have a pretty diverse cohort - from a 22 y/o to 50+ y/o with masters degrees!

I really appreciate you for answering my questions. Do you have any tips for the TEAS? I am taking it this fall.

I needed purchasing the ATI study bundle for the TEAS  (it was a bit pricey but worth it for me since I'm 30 and a lot of the material is from way back...LOL). I blocked out about 5-6 weeks and studied a few hours everyday to ge through all the material. It depends on your strong points and weak points how much time you need to devote- so I for sure reccomend purchasing the ATI study tests (take one now, see where you need to focus studying, then take the second a week before you plan on taking the test).

but that's about all I used to study and I ended up doing better then I thought!
