College of Mainland in Texas City

Has anyone applied for College of Mainland nursing program for Fall 2015?

I have a friend currently in her second semester at COM and she said with them 100 or so applied and 70 got in. That's pretty promising. I like number versus some other schools that have crazy number of applications to number of people actually accepted. If the TSI test helps in any way I'll do it. I don't have a degree as of yet. I have all my prerequisites and classes needed during the nursing like humanities, lifespan, comp 2. So I hope all that gets considered. I'll definitely come back and post any useful information that can help anyone.

Did she say that she enjoys the program?

She loves it. She said it does consume all your time especially clinical days. But the first semester she said was tougher but then it gets better once you know how it will be and get the hang of it.

Glad she likes the program. My mom went there years ago and said that they have always had a great nursing program. Every nursing student I know said that the first semester is the toughest. They say it's the "weeding out" semester to see if you can really handle nursing school. I'm so excited to start! Do you know what field you wanna work in once you're done with nursing school? There's so many options!

I would love to work trauma! I know that probably seems easier than done but also babies would capture my heart making me absolutely enjoy my job even more. In the end my first job wherever it may be will definitely teach me alot I'm sure. I hope we get to be in this together. It would be something we shared together lol. Nursing school and the stress along with it. Having friends makes it alot easier. Study groups etc.

I agree! I thought about trauma or post/pre op/surgical nursing. And yes I hope we get into together as well and yes it'll be good to have a study and school partner and friend in nursing school. We can be in this together! And hopefully we met other cool people like us as well and create a nice group

Oh for sure! The more the merrier . That's how I survived microbiology. A lot of study groups. I know my friends says pharmacology was a little tough. But memorization will play a big factor :bookworm:. Do you know when the nursing application end? Cause usually after that it's about a month or so and we find out!

Yes it'll be fun! I pray I get accepted. I'll have to move closer to COM but I'm excited and looking forward to it. The closing date for applications is May 1st I think. It doesn't state on the website but another student on this forum answered that question. Hopefully we find out a few weeks after that!

Do you live far from Texas city? I can't move closer but I live in pearland closer to friendswod

Yea I live toward cypress right now but plan to move to Pearland either way by summer. I just heard COM has a good program so I wanted to apply especially since it's not to far from Pearland.

I got clarification on the TSI needless to say I will be taking it I want all the points I can get

Yes, same here. I didn't plan on it before but after talking to an advisor I'm going to take it as well. I want the points and the best chance of getting in.

I agree also! Let's take it too boost our score! Good luck to everyone. Good thing it is reading.
