College of the mainland (COM) Fall 2016

Published

Hello everyone, I'm just making a thread for everyone that is applying for this upcoming semester. I applied last for the spring but didn't get in d/t a clerical error so make sure if you guys are applying to double and triple check they have all of your information in the system. Good luck to all of you!!!

Yes so basically from what I understand - its GPA X 100 (so 4.0 x 100 would be highest at 400) + 20 MAX for education points, 60 points for sciences, 390 max on TSI...so the highest score is 870 with the new point system.

I'm still confused. On my TSI the maximum I could have gotten was 390. I don't understand how it can just jump to 600 something. And the link I just posted I don't see any of that at all. It doesn't say gpa x100

So for those of us that applied before they decided to change it to this new system got our scores inputted into the system as 400+ and for those that did it recently all are in the 800 range? I'm not even gonna hurt my head over it. If my info gets put in wrong again I'm just done with that school. Too many back and fourth changes

Sorry i went back and edited that post, i meant for it to say 390 not 690! and that's what they mean weighted GPA - its in the colored box on the left start of the outline, weighted meaning they multiply it by 100.

On the fact sheet is says "weighted GPA". I called and confirmed with the Director of the Nursing program that the weighted GPA is calculated by taking your GPA and multiplying it by 100. The weighted GPA makes it to where the TSI isn't weighted as heavily and students who have an excellent GPA but not the best TSI score can still be competitive.

They told me they implemented this new point system last fall. When i spoke to an advisor early last fall they didn't tell me this..They have done a lot of changes over the last few years (even lifting the 5 year limit on science courses, which actually is great!) so maybe they forgot?? But nonetheless it does stink for me! :( I am pretty sure everyone will be measured based on the new scale with the "weighted GPA" regardless of when you applied in 2016. The max score is now 870, from what I understand. Just gonna keep crossing my fingers bc there's nothing i can do at this particular point in time to raise my score for Fall or spring entrance before August!

Well that's good for the ones with the good gpa's. Mine sucks so If that's the case Then out of 870 I have a 722 lol. We'll know what's what in about 3 weeks I guess. And also, I applied last fall and all of us that were trying to get in were all in that 400+ range, not this 870 scale.

Oh well I only have a 700..so just saying this really stinks for me! Yeah somewhere there is some confusion or disconnect :-P

I am so confused!!!! Does it show the new system on COM's website? I met with Mr. Moody a few weeks ago and he did not mention a new system. He told me its GPA + TSI Score + science classes + education = the ranking score. If it was changed last semester why have they not updated the website and why is Mr. Moody telling us otherwise? eekkkk deadline is this Sunday, I tried calling the nursing department just now. :/

Just go by whatever Mr Moody told you. He mentioned to a few ppl on here including myself the lowest amount of points that were accepted last semester. I think he said it was like 402 or something. Last semester he told me the same thing, not to mention everyone else, when they applied, also got a score in the 400's. No sense in confusing ourselves.

Also last semester when I didn't get in, it was the same people in the nursing department office that told me that my gpa wasn't high enough (which it was) and to top that off she left out my psych grade grade. She told me it was the sciences and English. But psych is clearly listed as a pre requisite. I really don't care about what my ranking score is, I just want them to account for every class and every point.

Just talked to mr moody and he said the website does say its subject to change at anytime, the app process. He said the gpa is weighted for sure so we're trying to go for the 870 total not the one in the 400s. He said if we don't get in May..get with him to see what we can do to increase likelihood based on the points of this set of applicants who are getting in for fall 16.
