College of the canyons spring 2017

Published

Hello

i just applied to COC RN program for spring 2017 and am seeing if anyone else has also! I have also applied for moorpark and thinking about applying to Glendale as well. Should I be studying for the TEAS? I don't have a high GPA in bio (all Cs...) do I even have a chance of being accepted??

thanks for any replies

The section I attended was Monday 9-11:30, Tuesday and Wednesday 7-1, Thursday 8-3:30 and Friday 8-12:30

i want to try to apply to a bridge program, but then i heard it is very competitive since they're only taking 10 people.

That's what I hear as well.

I already have a BA and was considering a direct entry MA program after a year as an RN so I would then earn my BA and MA in FNP, in about three to four years online. Is anyone else considering this option? I will look into it further and seek advice from our instructors.

I also have a previous BS degree and I was thinking about doing a RN-MSN program after COC. I have read that some hospitals just want the BSN and the master's degree won't make you anymore competitive for a position. Is the bridge program the CSUN cohort? There are a lot of other options to concurrently enroll at COC. They will talk about it in orientation and during the first week. I think we have to actually meet with a counselor before the semester starts or the first few weeks, so that would be a perfect opportunity to ask those questions.

Does anyone else already seem overwelmed? I do! And I have only started my TB test :nailbiting:

We are in this together. :)

Regarding the BA being sufficient, I understand I just want my MA in FNP so I have a larger scope of practice, at least that is how I feel right now. It will be helpful to see a counselor. I will do more research in terms of options for MA direct entry and prices and keep you posted. Least we have options. I believe the CSUN is a cohort which is nice to move through and support one another.

I am going through all our paperwork. Today I will:

1. try on and order uniforms, and maybe shoes

2. make dr appts today for physical and titer check, TB test

3. order nursing kit

4. enrolled in fire safety class 11/19

5. try to find BLS class

6. call counseling office for graduation verification appt

I tried to purchase malpractice ins and you cannot until 60 days prior to the start.

We will get it all done!!

Thank you. Question, I was looking at their previous schedules but I don't understand how to read them. Each section has several time frames and all sections seem to be the same. Should we expect to be in class all those days or do we get to choose?

I totally understand jojo! It is daunting when you think about all the deadlines and options, but they are so helpful at COC. Good job on the list! Good to know about the malpractice too. There is a place in Valencia that is cheaper for the BLS and they have are more flexible on times and dates. I have it written down. I will look for it and post it here. I did my first round of my tb and now I have to go back and get the second one.

Launley14 you will never make sense of the schedule. If you saw my post (probably 4 or 5 posts ago). That is an actual schedule. Last year I was an alternate and when school started I was either #1or#2 on the list. They invited me the week before school started to come and attend the first week. I was there as a standby in case someone dropped out. There were 2 sections and the one I attended had 20 students and the schedule is what I posted. The other section was similar but I think they had different days for classes. They were later in the day on Monday also. You don't get to pick. You have to adjust your schedule to what they assign you to. My section was going to clinical at holy cross and the other to valley pres.

I hope that helped. I know I always wanted to find out the schedule because of my kids and I never could get a straight answer!

Will you order your books yet or wait? Do you have a list of them? I would love to order them ASAP.

I got the list from the bookstore online. I just looked up the classes and wrote down the books. All the sections have the same books. I want to start picking them up but I don't know if they will be the same editions.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was so confused.

I'm super excited yet nervous.

I don't fully understand how the classes work though. This is what I kinda figured out, the first 6 or 8 weeks you are in Nursing 112 and then it switches and becomes Nursing 114. I got to attend the classes and they gave me the handouts and powerpoints but I did not get access to the class schedules and information on Canvas. I am hoping it will make a lot more sense once we can get access on canvas.

In case anyone needs it.....The Doctor's Office on Lyons will do your physical, TB, titers/vax, and drug screen. I just got it all done today for just my regular copay (this is with insurance; don't know about without). Now just waiting for TB read and titer results. I happened to have already gotten a flu shot at CVS but they do those too.

Does anyone here have young children? I have a 6 week old who will be about 5 months by the time the program starts and I'm desperately trying to figure out childcare....
